Lock & Key Progress Update - January 2025

Hello again, Magical Girls! Rachel here with another Lock and Key update!

As you’re no doubt already aware, this month brought the announcement of our upcoming Kickstarter page! You can check it out here if you haven’t yet done so and stay on the pulse of the campaign as it grows. Don’t worry, I’ll still be giving you the deets here as well, but that’s more of a recap thing. Following the campaign means being there AS IT HAPPENS, which in my humble opinion is pretty exciting. Going purely independent is a bit daunting, but I know it’ll be worth it to share Sherri, Kealey, Ruby, and Nina’s stories in their truest form with all of you!

When it comes to game dev updates, this month’s report is a little on the short side in terms of variety given how laser-focused we are on specific elements this late in the game (no pun intended.) With almost every last individual piece assembled, the focus this past month has been bringing them all together. I doubt it comes as a surprise to anyone that programming is the glue holding games together, so there isn’t much I can offer you in the way of surprises. And while some finished individual pieces did still come in this month, they were almost entirely related to the finale…and, well, I can’t just go and show you those, now can I? That wouldn’t be very “mystery” of our mystery game, I think.

But worry not! While you can’t see, you can hear! With our OST just about complete, I wanted to share one of the newest tracks from our ever-talented esselfortium. “Reassembly” is a Sherri-centric track focused on investigation, examination, and general mystery solving vibes. The title is inspired by her frustration with only being able to “pick up the pieces” as she puts it, but sometimes picking up the pieces is enough to save lives. But with a killer capable of doing the impossible, how can it keep up? There’s only one way to find out…

Thank you as always for your interest in LAK and your ongoing support! We hope you’ll keep an eye on our Kickstarter page and, even more importantly, get HYPE when you see what we have to offer you! See you again very soon :)

Love (as always),

Rachel
