bob being american is the same as monet being st lucian. monet saying she has a connection & can go back to st lucia is the equivalent of bob living and being from america. it seems like across the diaspora, being african - american is invalid because you don’t have “ties” to some other country, but america is a country as jamacians have jamaica, st lucian’s have at lucia. not sure why ppl are monet’s side here bc her original question insinuates that being from america alone is not valid. like bob said, st lucia is to africa as america is to africa. bob’s connection to Africa is the same as monet. when everyone in the world bastardizes african american culture to the point where it’s just seen as something american and not specifically black.
