R7: Vegetation Update + A few important updates/changes
Added 2019-07-07 02:06:19 +0000 UTCFirst, the general updates. Important! I recommend reading it.
- The last weeks/months have been very stressful for me, now the semester is over and I hope I have more time for this project!
- In the R7 update I attempted to create realistic nature. I struggeled a lot with all kinds of bugs, this delayed the update quite a lot... I'm not really satisfied with the results because the new stuff only looks good in certain lighting conditions/viewing angles - but vegetation/nature is really hard to create, mostly for performance reasons. It's still minecraft after all...
- For the next update, I'll go back to the roots. I plan to add some fancy high quality building blocks, mostly for architecture. (I plan the next update to be in 2 weeks)
- This will allow you to build more awesome stuff and share screenshots on my Discord for the new screenshot competitions - I'll pick the best ones and feature you on my YouTube Videos and on my website.
- I hosted a simple website: https://umsoea.com In the future I will post all the information there, such as recommended settings, FAQ, bug fixes etc..., so I don't have to post it on both discord and patreon. The "Gallery" on my website is supposed to be a list of all aviable blocks so you get an Idea of what is contained in the pack.
- I needed to make some important decisions regarding the future of my pack. I thought a lot about it and here are a few keypoints:
I want to go all in on quality over quantity. I no longer want to do many half-finished blocks that I'm not really satisfied with.
Style: Mainly the abstract, photorealistic, architectural building blocks that really go well with Seus PTGI's lighting.
Also I'd like to create some entities like Items and armor, ...
I want the pack to be clean and have its own style. I don't want to create textures that are super duper detailed but look bad from far away. (for example grass. The more detailed and photorealistic you make it, the worse it looks in a normal landscape scene... and it eats so much performance because grass is everywhere!)
For now, I'll keep this pack optimised for creative mode/building. There are already so many great resource packs out there for survival mode and personally I don't think it's possible at the moment to make the normal gameplay look as good as the minimalistic architecture stuff.
Maybe when I have more things created, I'll split the pack into multiple parts/themes.
-Texture Resolution: not any higher than 1024x, for multiple reasons.
About the R7 update:
Blocks added:
- Vines/Ivy: This might be the star of the show. 6 individual leave textures, 1 seamless base texture, 3 Individual Blockmodel variants with randomised density of leaves to remove pattern visibility + all the blockmodels for rotations and edge situations.
- Grass and Tall Grass (4 individual blockmodels and textures)
- Simple Grass and Dirt blocks (Non PBR, a test - feedback is appreciated)
- Fern is used for floor foliage (bushes with different randomised leaves. Also a test I'm not really satisfied - It's supposed to be for screenshots only.
They truely look photorealistic but sadly only under certain conditions.
Other changes:
- PTGI E8 support (not much has changed texture-wise, I will soon look into the new options)
- Oak leaves have 2 new textures with a more accurate scale.
They got a second blockmodel with another texture to add randomness to large trees.
Also, they now finally tint correctly according to biome. - Added a foliage and grass colormap to control tint
- Cleaned up the pack to prepare it for the next update where I will be creating some fancy building blocks again.
Stay tuned, I'll give my best to make the next update a bit more exciting.
