Lapping is surprisingly hard work
Added 2018-04-21 22:36:53 +0000 UTCAnd what is shown is not even perfect. I suspect that grains from the coarser lapping film got embedded in the epoxy at first and caused the scratch later. Will try again tomorrow and am hoping to finally start lasing then.

I thought about 3D printing one, but then I'd probably clog the lapping film with plastic debris ... maybe a sort of 4 feet thingy that slides on the underlying surface away from the lapping film?

2018-04-21 23:09:09 +0000 UTCAlso, I notice that the lens paper I use is compliant (or perhaps it is the slurry that is made). Lapping too much rounds out corners and erodes the softer material more. Just something to keep in mind. Best of luck and I'm interested in the results!

2018-04-21 22:59:07 +0000 UTCI use a block with a close fitting hole to keep the fiber square when lapping. I get much better and more consistent results than trying to align by hand.
