August is going to be about focusing on settlement maps
I have been really enjoying creating settlement maps recently, to the extent that they are overshadowing my feelings for battlemaps... I have so many ideas for settlements in my wish list and so few on my battlemaps ideas list
So this month I am going to dive in and focus on settlements a LOT more - nearly completely
Starting with Olchamarth
I have been looking forward to drawing Olchamarth (pronounced Olshamarth if you want a softer sound) for what feels like for ever... and now, it is time and it will be the first release of the month. Olchamarth is a scattered settlement in a swampy river delta area, on the river Shamar (see sketch in the header image).
Later in the month there will be another settlement map - If all things go to plan, possibly a small city in a deep river valley ... if plans go AWOL, it might be something else, that is a couple weeks away yet, so we shall see!
For the bonus maps this month, I am going to play with more settlements. I want to explore making a bunch of little hamlets and villages, possibly playing with elevation, or perhaps other little places that could be on the same river as Olchamarth, or maybe detail zoom-ins of parts of Olchamarth if I go with the Owl's Crossing (black blob buildings) style for the main map. These will be little maps, something I can finish in a couple hours at the most - like all bonus maps.
If I draw a battlemap this month... it will be of a sinkhole cave with water in it for swimming in, which is a location that I am already planning on winkling into Olchamarth somewhere. It will probably be one of the bonus maps... But, if I have time I will draw it larger and make it the 3rd paid release of the month.
Olchamarth.... I want this to feel a bit random and chaotic, with different locations that might seem a bit odd on the same map (eg. a gingerbread witches house and a step pyramid temple)...
Soooo, if you have any ideas for places that you might like to visit in Olchamarth, let me know below, or over on our discord, and if I can fit it in without creating toooo much chaos... it will be there ;-)
