usually the main skill issue is just not actually meeting enough people, because it’s difficult to find a partner without talking to people irl which is kinda a skill issue of our entire modern society, hence the loneliness epidemic though, i guess from my part, being entirely oblivious to when people are flirting with me and not knowing how to flirt myself are significant skill issues, but i managed to find a partner anyways from theatre club (or rather, they found me, i was too shy). so, the method that worked for me was to find something with regular irl meetings and a shared interest in something and waiting a few years

The right person would tick all the checkboxes in the pickylist and they would pop right through the guards. Perhaps life needs to build up before you meet. While some of the build-up might be about developing some skills, it's more likely about meeting the special person at the right time when both are open. Meeting them at the wrong time could lead through an excruciatingly painful heartbreak.
