*Steven Universe* Season 5 Episodes 19-20 UNCUT REACTION

It's great to see Ruby and Sapphire again but not under these circumstances. Love Amethyst for trying to hold it together for Steven tho. Also Rose is such a complex character. UGH so many emotions.

Yeah Rose's life has been a fun puzzle to put together I love the way they chose to reveal it to us. Ooh that emotional damage theory is great. I thought we were eventually gonna see what event lead them to change their forms but that makes enough sense for me.

Yeah Steven is a hardcore people pleaser which is a shame because I know he just wants the best for all his friends. I can’t wait for him to come to peace with Rose's actions and his place in all of this. Definitely agree about the Test as well. And ooh I'll definitely add that to my list!

I'm sure somebody else has commented this by now but I always loved that Rebecca chose to tell us Rose's story in reverse - the first morsels of backstory we get for her are right at the tail end of her time on Earth, right before Steven is born. As the show goes on we slowly get to know about her as a leader, then we learn about her during the rebellion, then the fake shattering, and now here at the end we're learning about how she decided to throw away her diamond persona. Seeing the end result first and slowly disassembling what makes her who she is, bit by bit. Also yes, as far as the show tells us, gems don't die via age, only via shattering/breaking the gem itself. Though a fun little factoid is that their "bodies" can be damaged physically, like when they get "poofed" and need to go back into their gems, recover and reform, but extreme *emotional* damage can ALSO cause their physical bodies to poof! It's a common theory that when Rose died for Steven to be born, Garnet Pearl and Amethyst all poofed and reformed. That's why they have the 80s outfits in all the flashbacks but when you see the flashback of Steven as a baby, they're all wearing their season one outfits. They all got so upset they needed to reform. :c

Steven tends to avoid thinking about his problems by trying to help other people, and amethyst might be the first person to notice. "The test" where Steven pushed his hurt feelings aside about being tricked with a fake challenge in order to comfort the gems was kind of the first big moment he did that and it worked, so it only grows from there, from letting Pearl completely off the hook for the multiple times she almost got him seriously hurt, to pretending to grow taller to make Connie feel better about his slow aging (like, he never says once how he feels it affects HIM, only in the context of his friendship with Connie), to turning himself over to home world rather than risk other people being sent to the space zoo and a lot of small and not small moments in between. Anytime he really sits with his own feelings about something he tends to do it alone. It's like he's trying to overcorrect for Rose's selfishness, but that really isn't his responsibility. Like yeah, it was sweet of Steven to pretend to love the fake challenge, but in reality it shouldn't ever be a kid's job to manage his caretakers' feelings. Also Re: the distant future: the YouTube channel Melodysheep has a video called "timelapse of the entire universe" that covers the projected theories of how the universe ends you might find interesting
