World building prompt: Unique Plant Life
Added 2023-02-21 08:00:09 +0000 UTCImagine there's only one specific area in your world where a unique plant grows. It's known for this plant, has towns/cities, roads, etc. named after it. There's annual festivals celebrating it, weddings are themed around it, so on and so forth. Or maybe it's a deadly plant that produces a unique poison only a specific group of assassins use!

The ancient Greeks knew both a plant very useful for poisoning their arrowheads and spears and that certain types of honey were extremely poisonous, my guess is honey found where oleander is common and blooming, as that plant is quite poisonous. I knew someone who, when told it was poison, tried a leaf (cautiously) and said, "If you're stupid enough to chew these leaves you deserve it, they taste terrible." The long, thin stalks are perfect for roasting wieners on though, and it's not uncommon for novice campers to make themselves really sick doing this.
