Our Setting: Voyage of the Shrouded Horizon

After an exciting poll to pick our very first campaign setting for the year ahead, "Voyage of the Shrouded Horizon" narrowly beat out "Porters Gonna Port." This means we're setting sail on an epic High Seas adventure together for the next year! 🌊⚓️

Here's How You Can Participate:

Monthly Polls on Patreon: Every month, I’ll be looking to you to help steer this ship. Through Patreon polls, you get to make big decisions like where we're heading next on our map or who our next big villain is. Your vote really shapes our journey! 🗺️

Get More Involved on Discord: If you’re itching to dive even deeper, our Discord is the place to be. There, you can weigh in on smaller decisions through micro-polls and throw in your own ideas to spice up our campaign. Discord's where we get into the nitty-gritty, and I love seeing what you come up with.

I can't tell you how pumped I am to start this adventure with you all. It’s about exploring new horizons together and crafting a story that’s ours. So, let's grab our compasses and set a course for uncharted waters! 🚤💨

Before we get started

I've always been drawn to the swashbuckling tales of "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Monkey Island," and "Sea of Thieves." There's something about setting sail into a world yet to be charted that thrills me to the core. A world where each corner holds not just new dangers—like dodging cunning pirates or deciphering ancient maps to unearth treasures—but also a promise of new beginnings and encounters with cultures rich in mysterious rituals and traditions.

But, as we dive into these stories, I'm also aware of their darker aspects, rooted in a period of history we can't ignore. I want to navigate these waters thoughtfully, paying the respect they deserve. Here's where my head's at on a few sensitive topics, and I'd love to get your take as well.

On the Slave Trade:

Let's agree to leave the horrific transcontinental slave trade out of our narrative. That said, the smaller-scale imprisonment and servitude that pops up in many D&D adventures might still have a place, provided we approach it with the sensitivity and seriousness it demands.

The People of Our New World:

Our campaign won't simply transplant the indigenous peoples from our history books into our fantasy world. Instead, let's craft unique societies with their own rich traditions and ways of life. I see a lot of potential in exploring the dynamics between vastly different civilizations—just without falling into the trap of stereotypes that diminish the complexity of real-world cultures.

A Personal Note on Sensitivity:

Immersing ourselves in a High Seas / Pirate setting means touching on some historically inspired elements, which is why I believe including a trigger warning is important. It's a way to show that we're not turning a blind eye to the more sensitive aspects these adventures can bring up.

Let me hear  your ideas and perspectives on these issues. Together, we can shape a campaign setting that's not just epic in scale but also thoughtful and inclusive. Let's make something truly special!
