Deva criminal justice in the Imperial era is all about public humiliation, with more dire forms of punishment having mostly been left behind in the Waxing Wars period when deva life was more brutal and dire. While the pillory was a popular method, public walks of shame and public flogging was also used. This very public humiliation is meant to allow a communal catharsis through which the accused may eventually rejoin society, albeit in a diminished state. Most cases are adjudicated by the local Chantress and the most prominent members of her choir who help her glean the truth through magical means.
