12 Things I HATE about Living in Japan 🌲 The 12 Days of Christmas Begins!

Hey guys,

The holiday season is upon us and the first video in the 12 Days of Christmas is now up! Throughout December we'll be releasing 12 videos across Abroad in Japan and Chris Abroad taking you around the country.

It's going to be a wild ride and in this video I reveal 12 Things I hate about living in Japan - with some potentially controversial ones thrown in - from food and architecture, to culture and transport, no facet of Japan is spared from my angry rant.

And don't worry - now more than ever I love living in Japan and feel lucky to call it home. This isn't the beginning of the end of my love for the country I've called home these last 10 years.

Though we don't typically do Patreon BTS videos for commentary videos such as this, given it was such a big video set across so many locations, we do have some outtakes and bloopers from this episode lined up for Patreon in the next couple of days!

But before then, enjoy the video and have a great first day in the run up to Christmas!

Chris

The reason they mention that they have also four seasons, like the major part of the world, might be that until recently* they had 24 seasons on their calendar. That was because they had to determine the length of an Japanese hour equivalent depending on the season, as Japanese hours were not derived by separating one full day into 24 equal segments, but by separating daylight time and night (dark) time into 6 segments each. So according to traditional Japanese, a day had 12 segments where the 6 daylight segments usually, except for some weeks around the two equinoctes, had a different length then the 6 night segments. And to be able to put that into a calendar and make it not differ from day to day, they had those 24 seasons with each season defining the length of the day and night segments. *while "western" times were known already awhile before, Japan officially switched to the now in use 24 equal hours time system in 1873. I do not know if they abandoned the 24 seasons at the same time, but they were mostly obsolete after that. Ofc, i got this knowledge from a YT vid, not sure if explicit mentioning other YT channels as source is welcome here. Had a bad experience some wile ago somewhere else.

I choked on my drink when you mentioned MOS Burger... but when I thought about it... you're right. MOS Burger is sort of hyped back in my country--the Japanese alternative to McDonald's--and the first time I went to Japan I had MOS and it was even better than back in my country. But if you want a good burger in Japan, there are millions of better options. MOS if you can't find anything else, but indeed if you're in Japan, recommend you get a proper burger.

Love bidet, sorry Chris. But everything else is spot on.

Worth the wait - great stuff Chris 🙂 You gotta do a video on Japanese football, especially given their performance in this world cup!

Left a similar comment on the video but it's funny how the japanese bands with weird names always make some great music. rhythmic toy world is one but bump of chicken and rookiez is punk'd are two others with great music but questionable names
