There's no better word to describe what Abroad in Japan is about better than "escapism".
(Er, and maybe "chicken").
Growing up I used to loved immersing myself in travel documentaries or films set in exotic locations, and feeling like I was escaping somewhere, even though in reality I was sitting on my sofa stuffing myself with Kit Kats.
But that spirit of exploration, discovery and adventure is something I've always tried to capture on Abroad in Japan; whether we're riding on a night train, crossing a rickety rope bridge, or begrudgingly flying over a Volcano. I want you to feel like you're as close to the action as possible - honestly, it's part of the reason I still shoot many videos in first person or handheld.
And there's no better episode on the channel that captures that spirit of escapism better than last year's video, where we travelled to Japan's most extreme northern point.
This week marks the one year anniversary of our epic road trip, filled with jaw dropping scenery, brutal blizzards, frozen seas and a crazy American man, as we journeyed to the northern tip of Hokkaido, just a stones through away from the Russian island of Sakhalin.
While I'm sure many of you have already seen in, in the off chance you missed it, I highly recommend giving it a watch. The unusual and beautiful locations we find along the way will constantly keep surprising you and hopefully the endless banter and frustration between American Pete and I will keep you entertained during the car segments in between.

And by popular demand, I'm looking forward to going on another road trip with Pete again later in the Summer!
For now though guys, enjoy the video and I hope your May has got off to a great start.
I'm currently immersed in editing JAJ: Escape to Paradise in a dark room.
Maybe that's why the idea of pretending I'm on a Hokkaido road trip has suddenly become so appealing.
