Journey Across Japan: Paradise Islands
By massive popular demand, we're finally off to Okinawa!
Shooting kicks off next week and I'm delighted to announce we've got something of an all-star cast for to end the series on a high note, with myself, Joey and Natsuki returning for the entire journey.
We're also excited to be joined by Okinawan native and good friend Chiaki, who'll be joining us for a few days! We haven't seen her since I tried to kill her with the world's hottest sauce (hopefully she's forgiven me: https://youtu.be/o1-fQzpfw4U ). But it'll be amazing to explore the islands together with a friend and local guide!
On a more ominous note, we'll also be joined by Ryotaro, meaning for the first time EVER, Natsuki and Ryotaro are featuring together in an Abroad in Japan episode! Sparks will undoubtedly fly.
Naturally, you might be wondering why this is the last series of Journey Across Japan.
The truth is I like to try and keep things fresh and original and I feel like it'll be good to draw a line under the series concept after this, such as the popular soundtrack, Dr Jelly, Anpanman appearances and overall branding. I fear if we do more, people will tire of the brand.
I'd actually planned for Journey Across Japan: The Lost Islands to be the last series, but it was so hugely popular that I knew we had to do it one more time. Viewers often tell me that JAJ are their favourite videos on Abroad in Japan.
As well as being the most popularly requested location for us to explore, Okinawa is also something of the last frontier for us all, given none of us have seriously explored the islands before.
Shooting kicks off next week, with the series releasing on Abroad in Japan in late May.
And as always we'll be accepting challenges from viewers and you guys will be able to submit them next week!
Just like every Journey Across Japan series, each episode will have a Patreon exclusive episode showing behind the scenes and outtakes from our journey!
Finally, we've got a new video out tonight on Abroad in Japan titled "Why NOT to Teach in Japan". Hopefully the hilariously awkward stories in the video won't put too many people off a career in teaching.
For now though guys, I hope you're looking forward to the series.
At the end of the day, Abroad in Japan is all about escapism, and we're all looking forward to taking you along for the ride one more time this Spring!

While the JaJ series is great, I agree, there is so much more that can be done, so many industries and topics to cover, plus more cinematic content (like 80s style night scenes, or whatever Chris comes up with should be intriguing) so I'm really looking forward to that as well!

I definitely can't speak for everyone, but I think the series is good enough and popular enough that it would do well as a annual or biennial project. Though I'm sure it would be replaced with something just as good if permanently retired.
