JOURNEY ACROSS JAPAN: THE LOST ISLANDS
Three islands. Six episodes.
- Three absolute muppets.
For the first time ever, I’m delighted to announce Natsuki will be joining the entire journey as we travel from Yakushima Island to Nagasaki.
Nagasaki is the last major Japanese city I have yet to visit, tucked away in the south of Kyushu. Meanwhile Natsuki’s family heralds from the region of Aso, home to Japan’s largest volcano Mount Aso. He’s never visited, so it’ll be a powerful experience for Natsuki to return to his distant ancestral land.
Along the way as we travel by car and boat, we’ll explore three islands - two of which are abandoned - as well as climb Mount Aso, stay at the most beautiful onsen town in Japan and undertake six challenges sent in by viewers.
We’ve found some of the craziest and most incredible locations yet for this series and with Ian and Norm back on board from the last season, we’re confident we can produce one hell of a series and take you guys along for the ride.
Shooting starts in the second week of April and expect to hear more details soon, but I hope you’re as excited as we are about the brand new series.

This week behind the scenes I’ve been working on four videos, albeit not all for Abroad in Japan! Right now I’m in Tokyo for the first time this year and here’s the full rundown on what you can expect in the coming few weeks.
First off, I finally sat down with Connor (CDawgVa) of Trash Taste fame, to film a couple of videos together for both his channel and Abroad in Japan. One involves drinking a lot of Japanese alcohol and the second involves a lot of fried chicken. I’ll leave it at that for now, needless to say I felt pretty dreadful shooting these videos.
Secondly Tokyo Creative finally turned the concept of “Abroad in a Pan” to life, with frightening results, as I created some chocolate gifts for Sharla, Emma and Aki, in the name of White Day. (White Day is where guys give girls chocolates in Japan).
Seriously, it was a disaster and the whole experience reminded me why I should never be allowed in a kitchen.
In between this I’m currently editing two Abroad in Japan videos, one of which is a surprise and the other which is the Hokkaido road trip, where I drove to Japan’s most northern point. It’s going to be a hilarious episode filled with tons of snow, cup noodles and despair.
And finally I also went out with a fantastic photographer last night, whose work I’ve appreciated for the longest time. If you’re into cyberpunk / night photography, Anocam is spectacular at doing Tokyo’s neon-lit streets justice. Though I’ll admit, I look thoroughly sinister in the photo below.
