Really liked the filter used around the Kyoto makes it look really cool

Interesting to see Kyoto so quiet. I visited this beautiful city in 2017 and it felt very overcrowded. Would be very interesting to see it without lots and lots of people! Regarding the apartments: They are pure luxury in my opinion. It might be cool for a week on holidays to feel like a celebrity, but I want to live in one of the machiya. They look like home - warm and cozy and a place to relax from everydays life.

Amazing, Kyoto is quiet; reminds me of movies of Japan in the 1950s and 60s before the era of the jumbo jet. ✈️Kodaiji, Washiocho, and Kyomizu minus the throngs of tourists that have recently been associated with Kyoto. 🤳⛩🎥This is the opportunity to get precious footage, not sure if anyone will ever shoot anything like this again.🎭🗼🏯🏯. You should take your advice and spend a few weeks in January or February, before the throngs of tourists descend to Kyoto again. 🚦🚧🚧🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙅‍♀️

Aw Chris, you look so young @3:30!

I love Kyoto, so I'm really happy to hear that you'll be doing some videos there in 2021. My husband and I actually were able to travel to Japan in February 2020 right before Covid hit the world really badly. We also stayed at a machiya in Kyoto! That was honestly the highlight of our entire Japan trip. Staying at a machiya is not cheap but you pay not just for the accommodation but also for the experience. I think it's absolutely worth it if you want to experience 'living' among the locals. Machiya is typically located in those small alleyway like Chris showed in the video. Chris! Once you go to Kyoto again, please check out this amazing machiya "Kyonoyado Gekkoan." We had the best time there and loved every thoughtful touches they did to the properties. Their hospitality is also top-notch.

I love Kyoto, Its always great. Everytime you re there you can find new fresh details that you haven´t seen before. Regarding Machiyas ... the look really nice and awesome. But who the hell travels japan with 4+ persons and is ready to drop 180€+ a night. You can seriously get places the same quality with a great view in the japanese alps for less. In Kyoto you are typically staying for a few days and will visit everything you can, maybe even have day trips to Nara, Osaka or Himeji. So you are paying big time for a place you are basicly resting at night.

Looking forward to the Kyoto video! I appreciate you bringing attention to these businesses that are potentially being driven out due to competition. Especially when it has that kind of old aesthetic that's really nice. I hope shedding a spotlight on it will help business when tourism opens again. I really liked the video on the new apartment, but I agree that it's pretty ridiculous in expense and I don't feel a need for it given the cost. Would be cool to see a video on apartments, townhouses, etc at a more reasonable price as a comparison maybe!

I had to upgrade my tier level just so I'll be able to watch the KFC Christmas special LOL

Alicia

When is the Natsuki's Treasure video when coming?

That should be one of the streets leading up to the Yasaka no tou pagoda, also known as the Hokanji Temple.

Eels

Natsuki + KFC Christmas special + electric box -> match made in heaven.

Chris, whatever you do; Im gonna love it. Even this 5 minute video made me happy smh. You´re a great video maker, keep it up! Im looking forward to the next video!

I created a Haiku inspired by Chris’s upcoming KFC dinner A proud YouTuber Longing for a warm Christmas KFC Reheat for video

My wife and I stayed in a machiya while we were in Kyoto! We loved it so much. Gotta be careful of the stairs though. They are a hazard!

I don't understand why people would go to Kyoto to see all of the historic places and then stay in a boring modern hotel. Machiya are beautiful. KFC with Joey and Natuski doesn't sound that bad for Christmas.

Hi Chris I really envy you. I absolutely love Kyoto. I had planned my seventh visit to Japan and Kyoto for this spring and am rearing to go as soon as it is possible again. The Machyia are really great, I stayed in those twice. And if you are more thann 1 or 2 people it can actually even be cheaper than the cost of hotel rooms. If you are still in Kyoto and have some time left, I would recommend a visit toMo An cafe, I was ther in december 2019, and it was really lovely.

I'd no idea about these little town houses to stay in while in Kyoto. My trip this year was cancelled so will absolutely look into them whenever I get to visit! One thing I noticed about staying in Kyoto was all the hotels and what not were always hard to get and more expensive than anywhere else in the country, including Tokyo. So I'll be spending the day googling machiya houses in Kyoto. Thanks Chris. I bet Kyoto is surreal right now. Once in a lifetime thing I'd say.

So cool you are featuring these “Kyo-machiya”. I would love to own one and learn to restore it. So they are definitely on my post lotto winning spending spree. Now I just need to win lotto damnit... :) Enjoy beautiful Kyoto! Can’t wait to see the episode!

Those shots of Gion at twilight are astoundingly gorgeous. Looks much more scenic without the massive hordes of tourists! I do hope the shops and businesses there are doing alright, tho.

Bulldozer

LOVE the B-roll! It does justice to the beauty of the place. Especially enjoyed the dust particles in the sunlight :)

the machiya look so cozy!

I was in Kyoto on Saturday and it’s spooky how little is open and how empty those tourist spots are!

Holidaying in Kyoto and staying in a machiya after all the craziness would be better than winning euromillions.

Georgina Luxford

Aside from the roof terrase (where I could run) between that and this I would prefer a reformed Kyoto Machiya to be honest🙂

Luciano Arrieta Martins

Ooh! Machiya! I love machiya! Maybe I should go back to Kyoto sometime and rent a whole one for just the two of us... Definitely looking forward to the video about them, either way!

Nynke de Haas

I’m a big fan of real estate videos, but it is a bit hard to be like “Wow, what an amazing apartment!” while it is completely empty. That said, I loved your sarcastic comments throughout the video. I’m excited for the Kyoto video, and extremely jealous that you got to see it with much less foreign tourists there.

Aneak

I wish Tofukuji had been that empty when I swung by there a few weeks ago... Definitely looking forward to the machiya info. Stayed in an apartment on the river last time I stayed there, which was quite nice, but clearly not as atmospheric. One reason I imagine tourists might not be aware of them is that typically Kyoto is full to capacity (at least, the places widely advertised). I typically stay in Osaka and take the train over for the day. Less hassle.

April Gutierrez

where is the street @0:45? i need to add that to my list.

Onux Tigris

The places in the Tokyo real estate vlogs remind me of the 80's show " Lifestyles of the rich and famous." I'd support a new series called "Sarcastic British guy tours moderately priced reasonably sized townhouses and apartments."

What a beautiful work restoring those buildings, I’m sure it will be a great video when you release it!! On the other hand, it’s hard watching Kyoto empty

thank you for the chat, chris! looking forward to a kyoto video. it was one of my favorite places to visit in japan! 🤗

Thanks for the vlog, Chris! Can't believe I'll ever see Kyoto so empty like it did in your video, that must have been a blow to the local economy :(

Agreed - we actually found Tokyo’s smallest apartment this week so that could certainly be a welcome antithesis to what we’ve been exploring recently!

Abroad in Japan

I like the apartment videos but personally I'd love to see a video on what kind of apartments someone with more "normal" incomes could get around Tokyo.
