JOURNEY Across Japan: Escape to Fuji | DAY 5 - Inside a British Theme Park

For a moment, it felt good to be home. Then I realised I wasn't home.

I wasn't home at all.

Journey Across Japan: Patreon Diary (DAY 5)

As Joey and I awoke inside our shipping container capsule hotel at the base of Mount Fuji, all I could think of was one thing; it's time to get our first view of the reason we came on this trip!

It all felt rather nostalgic driving around Lake Kawaguchi, where Journey Across Japan started 2 years ago, and we soon found ourselves at the iconic Chureito Pagoda - as seen on every Japan guide book ever.

- Expectations were high.

The reality was slightly more disappointing.

Just as Mount Fuji screwed me 2 years ago, history was repeating itself once again. A group of Japanese sightseers looked on in horror as a British guy went on a foul mouthed tirade at his repetitive bad luck.

Today's capsule challenge was to take photos in a location that didn't look Japanese - the idea being travelling overseas had been difficult in 2020.

And we soon had a turn of fortune, as we discovered a full-blown British theme park!

A double decker bus, a pub and a full working train station!

It was almost like being back home.

- Except in this case the train station actually worked.

The only thing missing were the Fish and Chip Pringles.

As we wandered around the park filming the video, a friendly guy approached us, who it quickly turned out was one of the managers of the theme park.

Once he discovered we were esteemed Youtubers, he gave us the royal treatment and gave us each a pair of flip flops shaped like fish.

Apparently, these "fish flops" were an original product from the park.

I'm not sure I could see the connection between fish flops and the UK, but I gladly took the free sandals. It was probably the best day of my life.

FUJI may have left us empty handed.

-But at least we got fish flops.

Another bizarre day on Journey Across Japan, with one day left to go on our 1,000 trip of despair.

As to whether or not we saw Mount Fuji, even if we did, I couldn't possibly spoil it before the series airs. Just don't get your hopes up!

Back tomorrow for the final day of our week long adventure through the Japanese Alps.

JOURNEY Across Japan: Escape to Fuji | DAY 5 - Inside a British Theme Park

Comments

British theme park lol. Yes we all wear fishflops in the UK XD

Sounds good

We're going to upload the series in 4k, so hopefully that should certainly help! We certainly put the 5.9k S1H to good use - the dynamic range is phenomenal.

Abroad in Japan

Yes unfortunately the British Theme Park was essentially empty; maybe it was because it was a weekday, but the manager seemed to delighted to see humans, let alone foreigners with cameras!

Abroad in Japan

Had no idea there were such theme parks in Japan dedicated to other nations. Gosh, I've learned something new with every post. Hard to believe that you've got one more day on your journey...time is flying by! Enjoy it to the fullest and safe travels back home. Looking forward to seeing the complete series - I'm sure it's going to be amazing 😊

Lake Kawaguchi, Chureito Pagoda and a British Theme Park as an added extra, cho-Hakone. The theme park looks awfully empty of tourists. I am sure you brightened-up the managers day with your visit. Fuji can be elusive, there are several long hikes in the Hakone area. I was lucky several years ago to see Fuji on one of these hikes. Fuji sits on a plain and punches strait-up. You get a sense of the immensity of the dormant volcano. Keep-up the travels and thank you for taking us along. Gambette...

I think your mistake was going to a British theme park. I feel like London at least is known for being cloudy and wet, so the weather was just cooperating with your choice of theme parks. 🤣

The quality seems top notch, new camera doing wonders i see, too bad youtube will compress the everloving shit out of it before we see it :( should upload to vimeo again like in the old days

The British theme park looks German to me...

Eels

Glad you're having a good time! Looking forward to seeing the video!

Michael Taylor

On that basis, I guess the British theme park didn’t make you feel too homesick, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the video. It’s lovely to see you looking so happy, despite the non-view of Fuji.

My sister's boyfriend would love fish flops! I'm looking forward to this video being released so I can forward it to him.

Did you spot the destination board on the London bus, Chris? Penny Lane? (For those who don’t know, Penny Lane is an iconic street in Liverpool. A London bus would never go to Penny Lane.)

Wanted to but the park manager kept plying us with free tshirts and sandals and we were unable to slip away, haha.

Hey, im not picky a single bit, and i am just ecstatic that i get to be a part of these journeys with you guys, and im literally along for every ride no matter what you guys choose, where you guys go, or how it pans out. 😊 So long as you guys are safe and happy in your travels, im all about it all. 🌿😎 Fish shoes and all, you guys have honestly never once dissapointed me. I mean, who wouldn't want a pair of fish-flops on an uncharted adventure? Lol 💜🐟👟

Jewel - (Freyja's Konjures)

Shuzenji Niji-no-Sato! I was there last year. Did you also drop in at the adjoining Canadian theme park - all maple syrup and Anne of Green Gables?

It's certainly been far more eventful than we'd ever anticipated!

Abroad in Japan

Even if you couldn't see Mt. Fuji, the story of this trip is fun enough😃

For Fucks Sake Fish Flops for all THIS CHRISTMAS

Abroad in Japan

You must be cursed with "never able to see Fuji unless climbing it" because that's some terrible luck... Maybe tomorrow

Khaltzane

I would definitely buy fish flops. Sounds like the next great AIJ merch.

I would love it if you did see Mt. Fuji on your last day, it would be fitting and cool, a British theme, wonder if they do some cream tea and scones their? I love them.

Xenin

Fuji san is such a tease, I’ve only see it once from the 8+ rides on the Shinkansen, quite awe inspiring. Australia doesn’t have anything that has that scale.

Aiken

Poor Chris. Someday you’ll see Mt Fuji. Just not today.
