Escape to the Japanese Countryside | Relaxing Ambient 4k (*Watch Now*)

It's not everyday you get to produce your own therapy.

Often while I'm stuck indoors editing away for hours on end, I like to have some music on or the sound of an ambient setting to help me relax and stay focussed.

Back in August when I was out filming the Driving in Japan episode, I was able to shoot one of my favourite compositions I've ever shot.

A luscious rice field blowing gently in the wind, with a gushing stream in the foreground and a towering mountain in the background (Mount Chokai - the tallest peak in north Japan). And as a bonus, there was even a shinto shrine and a traditional house nestled peacefully on the edge of a hamlet.

It was so disturbingly picturesque and perfect, that I've often felt myself returning back to that shot, wishing I could gaze at it for longer than the 3 seconds it featured in the driving episode.

So today, I immersed myself in the 100gb of footage, pulled the shot out and turned it into the video it deserves to be.

And rather than selfishly keep it to myself, I've put it up on the Abroad Perspective channel where anyone can enjoy it and hopefully use it as a much needed escape to the Japanese countryside on a stressful day.

I'm also hoping to shoot a few new ones in the coming week or so - one involving Natsuki!

But if you have any request for locations, settings or atmospheres you'd like me to film and feature, please let me know in the comments section. I'd love to hear your ideas.

As for me, I'm wrapping up filming a new Abroad in Japan video - expect to hear more about it on Film Friday.

For now though, I hope you enjoy the video!
Chris

So calming

I love two kinds of those relaxing videos. One is on the beach with the ocean sound and a bit windy, in the background maybe some seagulls. The other one is in the forest with leaves in the wind and various animal sounds. It is so relaxing and it helps me on focus writing my stories. So maybe if you have the chance to do a video like above on one the two settings? Anyway thank you for this one! I'm sure I will listen to it while writing.

Cathy

That's a rice field, I think.

how do they get such perfect grass

Isaac

Wonderfully relaxing. I take videos like this of lesser quality and on a much smaller scale all the time on adventures. Rushing rivers, wheat blowing in the wind, etc. So soothing.

The video I didn’t know I needed. Thank you!

Really enjoying the content lately! Keep it up my guy

I get these views in Shiga, if you're ever these ways! The lake, the mountains, the rice paddies, the ear piercing cicadas; Shiga has it all *chefs kiss*

Would you consider making an audio track of this 30 minute video? Like through spotify or downloadable from your website? It's such a relaxing sound to listen to~! πŸ’•

Froppuccino

YES! An excellent location. Would love to film it!

Man, I don’t want to do my workout right now...this is so relaxing! Looking forward to seeing your new video and listening to your next podcasts with Pete. You make the world a better place to be πŸ™‚

This is disarmingly gorgeous. πŸŒΏπŸ’œ I fall asleep and do work to a lot of ocean sounds, thunder and rain, nature noises, and this is absolutely perfect for my little "peaceful video" collective i have going on. And i love that its 30 minutes, as the longer the better. πŸ’œπŸ˜ Thank you for this style, i am so god damn excited for any more you do like this, along with everything else. 😌🌿 And for a location suggestion--- although since im not there, i dont know if its possible weather/travel wise; but Seigantoji Pagoda and Nachi Falls are absolutely gorgeous and would make a breathtaking backdrop for an "Ambience Abroad" film experience...😌🏞

Really enjoy these type of videos. So relaxing and love to keep them on in the background.

Beautiful, please do more of this stuff in the future, maybe when you go on travels and find different places that you think are worth capturing... this is really nice to watch and chill.

Ohhh I love this, makes me think back to your 2 minute escape video for driving across Japan (which was easily one of my all time favourite videos from you πŸ₯°) As for things to film... maybe a coastline? Waterfall?? O-onsen??? What can I say I'm a sucker for water sounds πŸ˜…

lovely shot! maybe some forest, sea and cherry blossoms?

Thank you so much for the video! It is appreciated greatly in light of the unrest in Kentucky today.

Sarah Ramos

Beautiful shot! My friends and I use ambient stuff like this for our friday night tabletop gaming, this'll be added to the queue for sure!

Very relaxing! I love the sounds of cicadas and running water and the views of waving rice and trees. The only downside of the 4K quality is that I made sure to watch it on my big TV and then got caught up in making out details like individual moving branches, and then I saw the end of the loop :). So if you're going to film for this type of video specifically (yes please!), I vote for very long loops :)

Thanks Chris, great relaxing sound. The next time you are going past a temple and the monks are chanting i would love to hear a high quality recording of that sound. I really enjoyed walking past the temples and hearing the chanting in the background.

Wayne Grover

This is going in my favourites list, for sure. Its going to be perfect for those nights when your mind just wont shut up and let you sleep.

Natsuki's smoke break area at his workplace 😬

Eric Sison

How about filming the Sanriku Coast? It's a beautiful rias coast.

Satomi Arihara

Ohh that is my favourite scene in the video!

Faenor

We may be passing through there for the upcoming Journey Across Japan series. Hopefully I can shoot one then!

Abroad in Japan

Haha, "Scapes Abroad" sounds at least three times better than anything I've thought up.

Abroad in Japan

Superb. Finally put my projector to use with this video. And the sound is so refreshing and clear. Made my day ^_^

Ambient noise like this is one of my favorite things! I'd love to see more of these from different places. I listen to a lot of rain and bug sound videos while reading in the evening to help me wind down. this is going into the rotation!

Perfect timing. Going to watch this to go to sleep

Linda T

Yes! Thank you for this! Gonna throw this up while working from home as I just got up here in Arizona! So peaceful, will go well with my coffee! Hopefully this is the star of a new series. "Scapes Abroad"?

Bobby

I would love to see some nice footage of hakone. I love it there

Chris Hunter

Thanks Chris, Today was supposed to be my first day out of my 30 day trip in Japan. I guess I will have to settle for this instead.
