What Driving in Japan is REALLY Like

Bears, missiles, abandoned buildings, stunning Japanese countryside and an abusive Natsuki on a beach, what more could you want?!
Expect a behind the scenes Patreon exclusive revealing the ups and downs that went into producing this monster video in the next dew days, with the deleted scenes I sadly had to remove.
All that and more in a few days, but for now I hope you enjoy the journey!
Chris
Waiting for behind the scenes.. Let us know when they are ready, thanks

Another work art! Looking forward to seeing more great films from you ☺️ P.S. Your channel inspired my past trip to Japan. I hope to see more of the countryside in the near future.

Well done, Chris! Loved the video and the companion “Escape” video. Really impressed with how your camera work has evolved over the years, and really like how used the music cues in your driving shots.

Hey Chris, another creator I subscribe to on here has just enabled the ability to chose which currency you pay in, reducing currency related bank fees on the back end. Be cool if you are able to do the same. Cheers 🍻

The missile scene was utter cheese, but I snort-laughed anyway 🤣

Finally! The video! So worth it for the production values alone. First time commenting (or second time, lockdown wine is hitting me), just really proud of your adventurousness and experimentation with filmmaking. Your growth has been amazing and noticeable.
People make fun of my (economical, but not wonderful) Toyota Camry Altise as a retirees' car, but we're not as consumed by saving the damned planet here in Australia as they are in Japan. But heck we should be -_-

This was phenomenal Chris, visually stunning! Encapsulates why I’m a patron, because your videos are seriously television quality, I forget I’m watching your content on YouTube. You’ve been working hard on upping your game and it shows. Well done!!

This video reminded me of the videos you made a few years ago but much more refined. I love these format of videos!

That footage of north Japan is gorgeous! Its like something out of a fantasy story!

You should have mentioned that it is possible to absolve the license test in English, not just in Japanese. I did so in ~1980, when I was a resident (through my father) and attended the German school in Omori.

Awesome video Chris, really love the scenery. Is there any way you could tell us the route you did ? Looks amazing.

Genuinely enjoyed the scenery, felt as if I was living vicariously through you and experienced a real good chuckle out of this vid. 11/10 would recommend to a friend.

This is so well shot. The move to 4K beckons, especially with the new camera. Maybe an iMac Pro purchase wouldn’t go amiss?

2020-08-04 09:08:02 +0000 UTC
What's the cost of owning a car in Japan? Like the actual car cost + all the hidden taxes, measuring tape fees etc.?
2020-08-04 03:25:02 +0000 UTC
Yeah, there’s nothing like getting pulled over by an unmarked Skyline for doing 180kph and getting away with it by giving them your military ID when they ask for a license, then playing stupid 😏😂

Hi Chris, I just saw a japanese only video from someone else. I know you did it before, but can we get one more while you are driving around in Japan?
2020-08-03 21:06:52 +0000 UTC
I enjoyed this, but I do wish there was some discussion of japanese traffic enforcement, particularly given the very low speed limits (for Americans and Europeans).

Great video. Hope you do more abandoned or lost in time locations? I know others do it for American and Canada but haven't seen any ones from Japan. Would be interested in seeing more road trips across Japan with forgotten places mixed in.

I -loved- this video!!! And those taxi drivers who drive your car??? What a great idea... wish we had something like that. It's a shame I'm one of those North Americans who can't rent a car easily. (I can barely drive in my own country so it's probably better this way.)
2020-08-03 18:22:36 +0000 UTC
Love that drone shot 😍
Are the road signs in Kanji? I really want to go on a driving holiday in Japan but my kanji reading speed is very slow.

Awesomely edited! I like the transition between certain scenes being sarcastic humor about horrifying Donald McDonald and the missile and then lovely rice fields and coastal lines. I can tell you took a long time to pace and edit this! Even my mom sat down to watch it with me on the TV lol great stuff
2020-08-03 17:41:48 +0000 UTC
If you name your son that, and he moves out of Japan because he doesn't like the heat there, let's say to Iceland or Scandinavia, wouldn't your grandson then be called Donaldson? Do your really want to risk that?
Also, from my experience with radio in Japan, you were really lucky to get music at all and not just people talking exactly like they do on japanese TV...
And i was hoping for a comment on the ridiculous speed limits in Japan.
Nonetheless, great video Chris.

You’re really going from strength to strength with your latest videos Chris. Just a perfect balance of humour, information and scenery. Really enjoyed it. I wonder if Daikou would work back in Blighty. Sounds like a great idea.

Not to put you up on a pedestal or anything, but your videos recently have been some of the best and well put together on the platform. Seriously like TV quality. Keep up the good work and I hope you're doing well.

Production quality keeps getting better every time - great video, Chris! 😂 Did you do a cheeky green screen for the whole opening segment in the car, or just the missile bit?
2020-08-03 16:49:46 +0000 UTC
I'm loving the Ghibli-esq scenery porn :D I know they tell you no longer than 4 seconds of scenery, but I'd love MOREEEE

Really impressed with your new video, Chris! I love how it was so informative, peppered with your humor, exquisite cinematography, new special effects, a somewhat creepy exploration of an abandoned cafe 😬, and a reunion with good ‘ol Natsuki! All in all, you did your fans proud (as always)! A video well worth the wait.🤩
