IF Abroad in Japan was a JAPANESE TV SHOW this is what it'd look like.

A horrifying image from the upcoming video on why I hate Japanese television.
Because I figured if you're going to critique Japanese TV, first you must become Japanese TV. To do so ultimately requires:

1) An unnecessary reaction box from another presenter
2) Extremely theatrical enthusiasm from all presenters
3) Annoying over the top sound effects.
4) A sea of confusing onscreen text
Expect to see all four of those things in this sequence.

Now back to editing this nightmare.
Hope you guys had a great weekend, and thanks for sending all the questions in on Friday's Patreon post.

Be sure to leave a question if you haven't already for the upcoming Patreon Q&A video!

Going to be wicked. Also love the glasses.

I'm sure he talked about this video on the podcast. But I can't find it๐Ÿ˜…

Satomi Arihara

Chris, have you perhaps forgotten to upload the video before you went advertising for people to watch it on this week's ABJ podcast? Lol

Rynnik Elddi

lolol what a mood. Now waiting for the update of "So..."

I thought I was going mad as well. I was putting it down to my inability to navigate all the platforms ๐Ÿคฃ

I can't seem to find the video! It's not on twitter or on either channel... glad to see I'm not crazy for not finding it lol I wonder if Chris forgot to press upload LOL

Same, I canโ€™t seem to find it either, and theyโ€™re already talking about it on the podcast today...

Riz

Am I crazy? Did the video not get published?

This video is going to be so great!

Zac Kelsey

I am looking forward to this one :D

I really like japanese televion (not that I understand much) but I think it is entertaining :-D Can't wait to see your video! :-D

i cannot wait time watch this one!

I'd say it is very unfair to judge salted egg by getting a knock-off potato chips version. The best salted chips I've ate were those from side walks of Singapore. Very savoury, not a hint of starchy potato you'll get on those cheap chips. Heck, it is very sought after, they are best sellers as a flavour for chicken wings in Philippines.

I second having Pete Donaldson in the reaction box, alongside with Natsuki as well as everyone's favourite villain Risottoro. With Sharla as co-host

Rynnik Elddi

Salted egg flavor doesn't sound very appetizing.

Chris-in-the-box looks really excited about the salted egg chips, and newsreader-looking-Chris looks utterley angry at them! Looking forward to this video :)

Question for the Q and A! If pete, ryotaro and natuski fought to the death who do you think is coming out on top?

Bahahhaha Gold! memories of walking to the Hotelโ€™s Asahi vending machine, sinking a few 500ml cans and having crazy Japanese TV playing in the background are flooding back.

Heath

I tried to watch it several times but it made me want to rip my eyes out

Very excited for a new video! I have stumbled across Japanese television shows in the past and have struggled to understand what is going on due to a lack of english subtitles. But nonetheless, I have kept it on as background noise. I would probably go insane if that were all that were available to me. I do recall getting as annoyed as you are/ have been with Japanese television, whilst on holiday in the US. Unfortunately, when all hotels I stayed in (they must not have been very good) were stuck on the sports channel. I was shocked at how many times the commentators could talk about the same thing over and over again including having the same over-the-top arguments (I note that they were not reruns! I swear). I was ready to throw the remote at the television.

Yes, I agree with another commenter, Pete and/or Natsuki need to have a reaction box. Isnโ€™t there normally about 3 to 4 guests in reaction boxes? It always seems like a strange panel show. ๐Ÿ˜†

Have you seen Japanese Style Originator? The show manages to be bizarre, educational and very entertaining all at once.

Right you are, Chris...

M

Yup, exactly what you said Chris

Niken Larasati

Hey Chris - why not do a video on you as in family, school, growing up Kent(?). Also, is there any collaboration youโ€™ve not particularly enjoyed doing? Finally, donโ€™t forget the hoarding Japanese postman and the ghost wolves :)

Awww, aren't you just dashing in your glasses, Mr. Chris! ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ’™ I'm so excited for this new video. ๐Ÿ˜‚ lol

Jewel - (Freyja's Konjures)

My husband and I enjoyed Japanese tv so much when we visited that we got a streaming service for it when we got home ๐Ÿ˜‚

How's things going with the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu thing?

Liam S. Crouch

I tried watching TV when we visited Japan and ended up watching baseball because it was the least overwhelming. ๐Ÿ˜… Looking forward to this!

SnoodDogg

Haha, I certainly did with this one

Thank for sharing your horror and, thereby, horrifying all of us in turn.

Matthew Cirilli

Chris, do you ever stop to think .. "should I?"

uplateagain 634563

i'd say you've nailed it. hoping for a Coolish sponsor logo to appear during the program as well

Eric Sison

For your Japan road trip, are you planning to do it all in one go or do it in seasons or similar? Like season one: Central Japan, season two: Tottori, etc.

Johannes

Ah! I was excited that this was a new video. I even clicked on it a couple of times... Oh well. Hopefully soon. I'm looking forward to your patented "Broad" humour. I can't wait to watch you skewer Japanese TV. It's terrible! Even worse, it's ALWAYS ON in Japanese homes. I think maybe the average Japanese person must be comforted by background noise? They don't seem to pay much attention to it. Keep up the great work!

ใ€Œใˆใˆใˆใˆใˆใˆใˆ๏ผŸใ€ I kind of liked Japanese TV when I was on vacation in Japan last year. :-) A bit too much about food though.

The best part is when they do this for video games around the time of Tokyo Game Show and have these 50-70 year old celebs completely unrelated to the content reacting to it.

H J

This is basically the same format as Egyptian Live TV, and just like the Japanese counterpart, impossible to watch.

Not gonna lie, watching you react to your oldest videos would be pretty funny. Keen for the new video, donโ€™t drink too much coffee while editing!

Hahaha! The only thing that could make this better is if Pete Donaldson were in the reaction box :)
