If I HAD to Live Anywhere Else in Japan WHERE Would I Move? | Exclusive Patreon Video

Oh boy.
It was 5am when I uploaded yesterday's video, so today's been something of a write-off.
No amount of coffee could resurrect me this afternoon.

Thanks to everyone that sent in their Questions for yesterday's Abroad in Japan video - we've got a Patreon exclusive Q&A video out later this week, so if you didn't have your question answered in yesterday's video, hopefully you will in the upcoming episode.

In the meantime though,  I come to you with another exclusive video to keep you busy while you wait.

Last week, I co-presented the Tokyo Lens Podcast with my good friend Norm, who's been producing an excellent series with Youtube creators across Japan, including Sharla, Micaela and Dogen.

For 50 minutes we chatted and shared our stories and experiences from our travels across the country, answering questions such as:

- What are the two best restaurant chains in Japan that nobody knows?
- Which equipment do we both use to film videos?
- Where would I choose to live in Japan if I decided to move?

It was a lot of fun and whilst the Podcast is publicly available, the slickly produced video of our show - with pretty impressive production quality - which Norm created specially for the Tokyo Lens Patreon, is now also available to watch here on Abroad in Japan Patreon!

At Home in Japan Show | Feat. Abroad in Japan
Watch:https://youtu.be/0_2VWP2sdJk

I'm very grateful to Norm for sharing the video with us given he spent a considerable amount of time editing it. And if you're interested in watching the full "At Home in Japan" series, be sure to check out his Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TokyoLens.

So grab yourself a drink and enjoy the video!

I'll be back in a few days with the Patreon Q&A video and in case you missed yesterday's Abroad in Japan video, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/tLExSqNNMPc

For now though folks, have a great start to the week - I'm off to get some much needed sleep.
But not before I check in on the guy in the basement...

I would second visiting Tottori. My ex-girlfriend lived there, and I visited dozens of times. Every time I would go, we’d rent a car and just drive and explore. I have seen much more than your typical Sailor, that’s for sure lol.

About Tottori: When i was there, unfortunately it rained like crazy, so we saw the dunes from the car park, but not more. Adding insult to injury the sand sculpture exhibition next to them was also closed because they were building new sculptures at the time. So we went to the Watanabe Art Museum which supposedly has a large collection of samurai armor. And it does, really a huge collection, also a lot of swords. And it seems Watanabe-san wasn't content with just collecting samurai equipment, so he went on and collected everything he could get his hands on... I can highly recommend the place if you are in Tottori.

Chris, if you are interested in visiting old Japanese elementary schools, I do recommend the Toyosato Elementary School in Shiga Prefecture, just a 30 minute train ride from Kyoto. The old school's distinctive architecture is famous among anime fans as the setting for a popular anime show in 2009 called K-ON - probably not your type of show, knowing that you are not really into anime, especially when the premise is basically "cute anime schoolgirls starting a rock band". Anyway, even if you're not into anime pilgrimages, the old school European style architecture is still worth a visit if you want to see what pre-WWII school architecture is like. Just Google Toyosato Elementary School, Shiga Prefecture and it should come up. I went there last November and was a pleasant place to visit, away from the usual Kyoto tourists. (If you got time, I also recommend visiting Hikone Castle nearby, one of the few authentic surviving castles in Japan)

Can't say it's my thing! I much prefer long-form content where I can tell a fleshed out story/narrative.

Abroad in Japan

Yes back in January! Holding fire for another few months when people are traveling again, given it's a travel heavy episode. I think it'll be a lot of fun to edit though, given Pete's hilarity.

Abroad in Japan

The verdict's in. Hands for feet ;)

Abroad in Japan

Ever thought about joining TikTok?

Hi Dave, tnx for the Q&A. You havent answered the hand/feet question though

Didn't you mention filming an episode of the Abroad in Japan podcast a couple of months back? Still coming out?

Eels

Hi Chris, have you ever visited the British Pub near the Tokyo Dome? I went there when I was in Tokyo for a karate course, a couple of years back, with the JKA. Quite nice, even if it doesn't quite match up with the pubs here in the UK.

"Language advisory"? Chris is never anything but polite....

Living Japan through you guys :) Thank you Chris! :)

Yeah I tried to treat the recording as though it was a video - not a Podcast. And I think it worked out pretty well. Because it's a video, you can peer into Norm's impressive studio, and witness me spinning around on a chair in front of a bookshelf with a rapidly emptying cup of coffee.

Abroad in Japan

Loved that last line lol

Ahhh i haven't gone through the last 5 posts yet because of busy work sched. I hope the coming weekend would offer me some respite to watch them.

Just when I wanted to ask - where can we find more Chris content, other than your channel and the Tokyo Creative vids. This has made my day.

This is one of those things where video really enhances the experience. It was so great seeing you two chat on norm's patreon, and I'm glad everyone gets to see it here now!

Looking forward to watching it later!
