How to Find Your Motivation in the Long Term | Patreon Exclusive Episode

So here it is by popular vote folks, narrowly beating out the "hilarious third option".
The next episode in the Patreon Exclusive series.

How to Find Your Motivation in the Long Term
Watch:https://youtu.be/AP_9AXDsOO0

It's something of a reflective story about how at the the age of 18 I was shy, aimless, unmotivated and fairly pessimistic about my future. Yet somehow in a three year period I randomly moved to Japan, started a Youtube channel and reinvented myself after finding a sense of motivation. In this video I discuss how motivation is a lot easier to find if we think long term. I hope my own experience will be of use to those of you feeling slightly lost or aimless in life at the moment.

And for those of you who missed last month's episode "Understanding the Japanese Mindset" you can check it out here:

We've still got plenty more videos in this series to release over the coming months, and in March there'll be another vote where you can decide what's next. (And naturally, you can expect another "hilarious third option" along the way).

If you have any questions on the video, fire away in the comments below. The Sapporo Snow Festival video will also be out in the next day or two, and we've also got a new Podcast released in a few hours with updates on the Coronavirus situation in Japan (and a slightly depressing news story amidst the usual chaotic banter).

In other news, I went to the gym for the first time in 8 years today.
I'm feeling broken. Absolutely broken.

Suffice to say, I'm not looking forward to waking up tomorrow.

Enjoy the video!

Hey Chris! I don't normally comment on videos at all but I really appreciate you making this video. I constantly feel like I have been drifting aimlessly for the last few years. I am really looking for that goal and motivation. So thanks for your advice.

Took me a long time and a lot of study but I’m finally getting somewhere a music producer still a long way to go though , but I love my music and my life :) and this video is really great to remind me to keep going :) You’re an awesome guy Chris 😎

Hi Chris. Great Video! I'm somewhat of a new patron to your patreon. I wanted to let you know that this video really helped me and lit a fire in me to continue and not give up on my dream. If you'll allow me to talk about my own situation a bit, my father is very sick, my brother has mental health issues and me and my mum basically have to take care of the house. On top of that, I'm just not landing a job no matter how much I apply given my own lackluster resume despite graduating. I lack the motivation and the prospect of giving up on my dream to move and work in Japan, the only desire I have stuck with in my sea of indecisiveness, felt like it was something I had to come to terms with. But watching this made me realize I shouldn't give up on that and use this stress and fear to continue trying and not give up; turn it into something positive. I find you helped with this video more than anything else because your situation at the time and state of mind is relatable. So I just wanted to share that and thank you for this.

Great video! I am glad you were able to fight them out of Tokyo Creative. I am working towards my dream of becoming a CMO. I would also like to add that people should own their dreams. Don't worry if others think it is overly ambitious, they don't know what you can do. Hold on to your passion and inspiration and work hard! :)

Hey Chris, thank you for this video. Just what I needed today. I get motivated and then lose it after a while. I kind of forget the bigger picture and why I want it. But you're right. Dream big. Hugs from Croatia

Hi Chris, bit of a strange question but I just wanted to know about your lapel mic here - the sound quality is excellent so was just wondering if it's anything special or if a cheap one would get similar results? Also if you do any kind of post processing on voice parts? Thanks!

Yeay podcast. Tho sometimes I always forgot to listen on the day it was release. But I'll promise to click the video I want to watch on the next vote, maybe... 😁

It's inspiring that you've reflected so much on what you really want out of life and then went for it. A lot of people live life like it's on rails until they wake up old and full of regret. It's easy to forget that things like working a regular 9-5 job or having kids are choices that you can say no to in favour of other things you'd rather do.

Unrelated, but today I learned the origin to the egg/tamago kanji, 卵. I'm afraid it will forever stick around. Great way to memorize it though...

The hilarious third option lost? I demand a recount!

I can't remember how long ago I last set foot in a gym but it's more that ten years, for sure! Go you - but also, they say it's not supposed to hurt that much so you may want to go a bit easier on yourself next time. Makes it easier to keep up, too :). (This reminds me that I should dust off that rowing machine in the spare bedroom and use it...). Off to watch the video that I voted for!

Woah, you scrub up alright don't you? As a newbie YouTuber this is incredibly useful advice, thanks so much for putting this together!

Keep going to the gym! Once it's stuck in your routine, it easily becomes an addiction. Probably one, if the best and only, addictions you could end up having. Great job Chris!

Woohoo fancy Mr. Broad! Looking snazzy !
