12 Things to Know Before Coming to Japan: Behind the Scenes Patreon Vlog | The Return of Natsuki

Hey guys,
I hope you've all had a great week so far!

So it's been a record breaking month in August in terms of releases, with 5 new videos this month alone, and no signs of stopping going into September, with another 4 exciting videos in the works.

Tonight just saw the release of a "12 Things You Should Know Before Coming to Japan" featuring good old Pete Donaldson. We've been discussing filming a podcast for the last year and a half so it feels great to finally make it happen - depending on how it performs, we may look into doing more before the year's out.

Watch:https://youtu.be/JkbtMPzlig8

Some may argue we did film essentially film a podcast episode, ALAS it's so much more than just a Podcast recording. There's a staggering amount of really useful B-roll footage of Japan, an onslaught of Japanese vocabulary to learn on screen, Pete Donaldson waving his hands around like a hentai octopus and even a sketch with a snuggly pillow in the opening minute of the video.

What more could you possibly want?
- Well how about the behind the scenes video recording?

Today's video clocked in at 14 minutes, however we actually filmed for 45 minutes (the length of the podcast). It was a shame as we had to cut out tons of useful information and amusing segments, in order to get it down to a length people would be willing to watch (which is usually anything under 15 minutes).

In the behind the scenes video, there's no music or distractions - if you watch it, it's as if you're sitting in the room with us (in the baking hot recording studio with an absence of air con). It's the sort of fun thing you can play on the TV in the background while you're plotting to take over the world or make dinner.

We've also got a new Podcast episode this week, where we discuss the JET programme and teaching English as a job in Japan, as well as answer questions sent in by listeners.

Finally, this weekend I'll be catching up with Natsuki for the first time in two months! Together we'll film next week's Patreon Vlog - so if there's any questions you'd like to put to him, feel free to ask away in the comments below!

I'll reveal why I'm meeting him in the vlog (it's not just for a drink and a catch up) and fill you in on the spectacular videos you can expect next month, including a top secret mini-documentary that I'm filming next week that I've waited about 7 years to produce.

It promises to be quite the video (and no it doesn't involve Ken Watanabe sadly).
More details on that next week.

All in all, this month has been one of the best months in years; with 75,000 new subscribers joining us in August alone. The channel is really back on the rise, and I feel fantastically motivated to make the next few months really count for something.

It really is time to exceed the sky of time.

For now though guys, enjoys the videos and podcast and have yourself a splendid Friday!
- I need to go back to sitting beneath the precious air conditioning unit.

wow, that must've been a trip and and a half. $250 doesnt sound that bad, considering it's japan and you drove more than 100kms in total. good to know.

Oh man...re: flying into Haneda vs Narita airports, I managed to go through the most epic of fails just two days ago: came to Haneda airport before my flight (I only ever fly to and from that one), only to find out that my flight wasn't on the timetable, because...it was flying from Narita! 🙈It would have been a total disaster to have to rebook all of my connections after this flight, so I had to take a taxi, and even with that, just barely made it to my flight. For anybody interested, a taxi trip from one airport to another costs ~$250. 😩 The driver was outstanding though: he quite literally ran to and from the car, continuously apologizing. I'd pay him extra just for that.

ooo hentai octopus

Are there any other food challenges for Natsuki to defeat Chris in? :)

Haha that’s a genius idea - I think I’m going to actually put him through the test.

Also Happy Friday Chris!

Not so much a question, but if Natsuki could ever react to Australian animals I would be highly amused. He has a certain way of describing things and it would be....amazing.

Question for Natsuki - (If he doesn't have any) Would he like to have kids, and if so, what would their names be? And, what would he like them to grow up to be, career wise? Thanks Chris!!! Oh, and hi, Pete.

I love the format, and i think permanently filming the podcast is both a great way of getting a wider audience, and a great way of viewing the podcast.

I’m so pleased that Pete is on this latest video. I’m missing him on the radio. Very many congratulations on your latest batch of subscribers. I suspect this number will rise again in September, with the Rugby World Cup. Hopefully you will go stratospheric next year, with the Olympics and Paralympics.

I've been secretly hoping you'd start recording your podcasts so I thought the video was great! You guys have exchanges sometimes that make me wonder what's going on in the studio/room. I hope there's more of this going forward whenever you're in the same room :D Also, I wonder what Natsuki's score would be if he took that test on the 26 traints Japanese girls would want...

Congrats on all the new subscribers. :) Looking forward to the top secret mini-documentary.

Love to watch more of the podcasts in video form :D Also, I'm kinda disappointed that Pete's dirty cash singing was left out in the video :/

Damn 75k new subs??? Congrats man!

Thanks for the amazing content that will surely help me keep on task at work today ;) (but it’s fine because everyone in the office is looking forward to a 3 day weekend here in the US). One quick question I have for yah: Will we be looking forward to some Olympics content down the pipeline 🤔. Love yah and your work Chris. Have a great weekend!
