Exclusive Natsuki Bloopers & Outtakes Video | Journey Across Japan is OVER

2,000km.

28 episodes.
11.4 million views.
6.7 billion hours spent editing.

The most comprehensive Japan travel series on Youtube. In fact, probably the most comprehensive Japan travel series EVER (unless you can prove me otherwise).

 And it’s finally over.
I know right? I can’t believe it either.

Thank you so much guys for backing and supporting this seemingly never-ending project. Now that it’s over, it’s pretty exciting to look over the lengthy playlist of 28 episodes and remind yourself of everything we saw and the amazing people we met along the way.

Some people pointed out that Emma, (Tokidoki Traveller) never made it on to the series unfortunately. As I mentioned on here before, during the final days of cycling and filming, I was an absolute wreck; the enthusiasm was gone and the life drained from my eyes. I went to edit our two days together and found I literally couldn’t bear to look at myself.

It was like watching a zombie stumble around with a silly bicycle helmet on.

I’ll be talking about that in the epilogue follow-up episode which will be out in a couple weeks, as well as how much weight I lost (and then subsequently put back on through editing the series), and give Journey Across Japan a nice little wrap-up before closing the book on this lengthy chapter of the Abroad in Japan story. I may even throw in some bloopers from the series.

If somehow you’ve missed the final episode in Kagoshima, be sure to check it out below.
I hope you appreciate Ryotato’s smug expression in the closing credits as much as I did.

In the meantime, I recently loaned the crown jewels of the Abroad in Japan empire to Sharla, when Natsuki went to go and visit her up in Morioka for the day.

Seeing Natsuki and Sharla enjoy a dance off and a splendid tempura lunch together was a strong reminder of why I want to get Natsuki back in my life and back on the channel. (It’s also pretty great Japanese listening practice, given they speak mostly in Japanese).

It’s worth pointing out that I actually went along with Natsuki to see Sharla in Morioka and acted as the secret cameraman for the day. YOU’D NEVER KNOW, except for the next video below.

As a favour, for helping Sharla film her day, she’s kindly shared the Blooper Reel & Outtakes Video from the day (which is unlisted on her Youtube), which you can watch exclusively on the Abroad in Japan Patreon.

The blooper reel video gives away that I’m the cameraman, thanks to my constant snorting throughout the filming…

"paras" is Finnish for best.... That is if he even meant to say that.

What's the last thing Natsuki said on the video?

One thing I like with your channel is the balance between more serious videos (with Ryotoro) and the more funny videos with natsuki. We haven’t seen natsuki in a while. Would be good to see him in your videos again

Chris is like *must not say anything so ppl don't know I'm filming* "snigger"... yup that's Chris. Also camera angle, that on a angle shot from an item panning to a person... yeah it makes sense in my head, words are hard ;)

nice one mate

Lol it's so funny that you wrote "In fact, probably the most comprehensive Japan travel series EVER"... Last Saturday, I went to my brother's home for his birthday. His wife, knowing I love Japan, showed me the box from a DVD about Japan that they had previously watched after borrowing it at the library. But the thing is, it was made by some French dude who never lived there, and who clearly suffered from orientalism. As much as the stuff produced in the US are mostly build around the "weird Japan" stereotype, a lot of the stuff I've seen produced in France has that weird, patronizing vibe, like someone studying animals, simultaneously admiring and dehumanizing them in a weird way. So, I looked at the DVD box with disdain and said that I needed none of it, because I already had access to *the best information on Japan, ever*, from a guy who's lived there for over 6 (7?) years, who actually has local friends, and who doesn't think that Japan is geishas and noh. And then I proceeded to send them a link to your "After the tsunami" video. They're busy, so I'm hoping they'll watch it this week. Who knows, maybe you'll gain some new fans! And most importantly, I hope this will open the eyes of two more people to the actual Japan, instead of having them put money in the pockets of yet another rando who fantasizes about the Edo period and what he perceives to be "classy prostitution".

Nice blooper reel! I seriously thought Natsuki's wife was behind the camera for that video.. Great work there for the journey! Hope to see you start another challenge.. (Easier challenge I guess?)

Thank you so much for all of your hard work to bring us quality content! You deserve a massive rest!!

I'm so glad for you that you've finally wrapped it up! Sorry to hear you were feeling that bad during the last few days! I get that the weeks of hard work with very little downtime and even less sleep would catch up with you at some point, though... I must confess that it had been so long (and OK, my memory is so poor) that I actually forgot Emma never made it into an episode! I would love it if you could fit her into the epilogue somehow (because <3 Emma), and/or maybe just a highlight reel of the sights we didn't get to see? I'm looking forward to seeing Sharla and Natsuki's bloopers, and I'm glad you were there! When I watched the original video, I was actually thinking how nice it would have been if you could have been there too, because you've been mentioning how much you miss Natsuki! Yay for behind-the-scenes fun :).

Nynke de Haas

right! so THAT'S what he meant! I thought he was talking to the viewers and using an unusual verb...

Nynke de Haas

More Natsuki, please, Chris! Actually, there is a hint you might be the cameraman since Natsuki talks to you directly while washing Sharla's hair, something about you not having done a video like that. The English subtitles seem to imply him talking to you at least.

Damn, i thought it was Natsuki's wife who was doing the filming!

Liam S. Crouch

yay! Congrats on finishing the cycle and releasing the videos! Looking forward to future videos.

Journey Across Japan was supremely entertaining and it was a pleasure seeing so much of the country through your literal and figurative lens. Thanks for working so very hard to bring the series to us all. Congrats, and good riddance to this difficult project. Onward and upward; looking forward, as always, to your next videos.
