How I Lost 8kg in 2 Months | 3 New Items of Equipment | Patreon Vlog

Hey guys!

I hope you’re having a great week so far! The new vlog is now up discussing what lies ahead this month!

I can’t believe the cycle kicks off in just under two weeks! I’m terrified yet seriously excited - and hopefully as discussed in the vlog, you guys have some ideas on how we can make this the greatest travel series ever.

For those that missed out the most recent video “Mount Fuji Ruined My Day” you can check it out below.

Thanks guys, looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Chris

Where's the "EXCLUSIVE Abroad in Japan WEEKLY VLOG!"'s? It's alright if you stopped doing them, just remove it from your reward tiers, or change it to just "exclusive vlogs".

The person reading this is sexy and epic

How hard is it to ship out of Japan? As far as generating views, maybe finding a super unique item from each area that you could offer up as a giveaway to all who comment/share/etc, on each video? Doesn't have to be something large. Of course then you have to haul them around with you during your trip, but maybe you have a way to do that? Just a thought, I know from a social media standpoint that kind of stuff always generates interest. You can even say sharing the video on FB or Twitter would count as an entry.

As for the daily videos, thinking about what I'd like to see, I think showing the scenery of where you are cycling through, and maybe speaking to the locals of those areas would be a compelling experience. If us, the viewers, get to follow you and see what you see, talk and listen to who you are meeting through the trip, and get to know how you are feeling, physically and psychologically, that would be a video series worth watching.

I'm very much looking forward to the long cycling journey. I very much enjoy your videos and the content you produce is amazing.

Maybe have a theme for every video, and interview someone you've met on your journey that day around that theme? Super excited to see your trip! Will you post a schedule of sorts as to where you'll be and when? I live in Shiga and would love to come out and wave as you cycle by. Also hope you come by Shiga, I just did the Biwaichi where you cycle all the way around Lake Biwa and its absolutely positively beautiful!!

I have a GoPro and I know how bad that sound recording is on that thing. Working on getting a decent mic for it but then I need to buy the branded mic cable and a bracket seperatly. I can see why sales for GoPro's have dropped over the years. 😫 Looking forward to the cycle!

2.10. and still no cycling videos. When?when?when?🤨😁

Do a virtual cycle tour, best all round for every one! Your arse will thank you latter.

I'm excited about your bike ride! For me, just seeing new things is very exciting. A few years back I took a long solo road trip, driving 17,000 km in six weeks to places I'd never seen before. Western Canada to Boston, then back across the US to Seattle/Vancouver Canada, then home. Every morning I couldn't wait to get on the road to see what new things I'd see and experience that day. I'd be very happy just to see footage of your views, and maybe at the end of the day you could mention 1 or 2 things that you loved most about your day. A new view, meeting someone new, the feeling of a nice hot bath before bed, stuff like that. Adventure should make you excited and grateful for all the firsts you'll experience.

Trying to put warp stabilizer out of a job I see haha

Why not just present the cycle as the second abroad in Japan "movie"? As opposed to lots of small videos? Otherwise if you want a theme to rake in the views on regular videos, hot babes, butts and breasts should do the job. Haha. On a more serious note, am sure you guys will think of something and am looking forward to whatever comes from it.

Sounds like you're all kitted up for the cycle, Chris! Just remember, two hands on the handlebars. There's got to be some super-slick bike mount you can use with your goPro. As for how to keep the cycle interesting...I'd say think about the branding. "Cycle across Japan" has got US all hyped, but the average youtube viewer might pan over that. Maybe make it less about the cycle and more about the journey. This is an amazing opportunity to help people discover a huge swath of Japan. Maybe focus on that with your branding and your advertising. Speaking of - if you've thought about how to promote this, especially on socials, I'll be sure to retweet/repost/whateverthekidsdoonsocialmediathesedays. The socials are going to be a powerful tool for getting the word out on this.

Love that you'll be doing the filming yourself. A camera man really does make a video feel completely different; distant describes the feeling pretty well. Hope the cycle goes well!

Dear Chris, Maybe you could take a mascott (like your pillow-cat) with you on the journey. Then you could hide it in every video and the viewers are supposed to find it each time. If you want to make it a little bigger the viewers could collect the words (the items where the mascott Was hiding) of each Video. In the end they have to find the solutionword by putting the first letters of the words together or a setence by putting the words together....

Tobias Heymann

maybe you could have a daily theme for your videos? (Or mix themes and challenges or the other ideas given). Like it could be "water" one day, or "distant scenery" another. Or make it more challenging and try to convey over video something that isn't visual, like how a place smells. For extra fun, don't tell us what the theme is until the end of the video - make us try to guess it! (doubly serves as an evaluation of how well you pulled off your own theme challenge - could turn it into a learning experience for future vids or video experiments. Or, you know, just let it be a fun game) I really hope you don't have to spend several hours each day just editing all these daily videos, though. Don't cut into your much-needed rest/sleep! If it comes down to it, I'd rather have simple, more raw video so long as it means you're getting enough sleep.

What about a small hunt challenge where you have to find some sort of item in each place/town you stop at, e.g. famous statue or landmark, or something obscure known only to locals so you'll have to interview locals to find it

I have to say I really agree with your comment about losing weight for a specific purpose/event. I've probably spent the last two years "trying to lose a few pounds" but only in these last few weeks have I made any progress because oops suddenly I'm going to be in Tokyo for two months very soon! (How is it almost October already? Unreal!)

The leg of the journey where Natsuki is waving you off and meeting you there, I feel like it would be cool if there was some kind of competitive aspect to that. You know like when you’re in the supermarket and your mate takes the lift and you race him on the stairs and then lose and then regret not buying your shopping online in the first place.

Hello Chris, i saw some videos from some cyclists which drove in japan. I guess you know it. The showed the life from some people which they met on the road. Fisherman, Dancer etc. It was really interesting. Such things have to happen by accident or good planing. Difficult i think. but that would be cool i guess. Can´t wait to see you daily. My wife is saying "やせたね" at the last video like three times. So, looks like you really lost weight ;-) Cheers, Jens

"I'm becoming a nice person. What this? It's disgraceful." 😆

I'm trying to imagine a less engaged part of the audience/subs and I think what would help to keep them coming would be having titles and content that show why each daily video is unique, so that they don't assume they all have similar content (like always focusing on the cycle/ surviving it etc.) So they might like your documentary-style voice giving info about the places you visit, information on what they are famous for, what is interesting to see and do there, a unique restaurant/ ryokan/ activity etc... I hope that makes sense! :)

About what you can do on the way to make the trip more interesting to watch I think you might be able to try something similar to Begiragons/Megwin. Maybe get a Gacha machine and put in challenges sent in by fans in them and each day you pull one out and you have to do that. The challenge could be take a picture with some fish next to a fountain. Or you have to drink an alcoholic beverage at every Conbini you pass or something stupid like that for the day

The view from the top of Himejijo is incredible, though. And yes, the surrounding grounds as well as the castle itself are all stunning!

briandemodulated

Honestly I think daily LIVE videos answering questions , singing , painting , doing dares , teaching a bit of Japanese , interviewing people you meet , stuff like that would just be amazing! And of course doing merch giveaway competitions! Or best photo wearing merch competitions :) All the best chris! :)

Try to get the haircut before going for the road trip, that's like 2 kg to lose right there. :)

The new camera setup looked great on the cycle video. I've never been much for cycling, but the crisp visuals are tempting me to want to get into it. I live in California, and there are definitely some great spots to do something similar to what you're doing, albeit on an extremely truncated scale.

I snorted at the 'godbless' :). I agree about the distance in the Fujikawaguchiko video (did I get that right? I spent a day there last year, looking at the huge base of a shrouded mount Fuji, but it has so many syllables!), but if you have to, you can resolve some of it by actually making sure we know who the cameraman is - Tokyo Creative has a way of sometimes introducing crew members in videos so you get a sense of people like Kenji and Shiori being part of the family. I think that works!

Nynke de Haas

holy shit you're about to be lighter than me. good shit

or something like it - you really don't want to spend hours cycling while holding up a camera in one hand! that'll do your neck and arms in, even if you start lifting weights religiously right now...

Nynke de Haas

Pretty much what I was going to suggest. Rotate between different things, one day it's meeting a few people, another it's food, and another day it's answering viewer's questions. Add in a bit of local information and such, and just try to vary things a bit.

In order to make this "the best travel series ever" you'll need a cute mascot. No series is complete without one. Whether alive or plush. I mean, what could go wrong?... https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/49/DP_Bicycle.png/440px-DP_Bicycle.png

(Using Patreon app on iPhone… your “balls” comment was too small for the app to let me reply) Well, it’s a possibility if his saddle is set up like Sharla’s was in the other video.

You gotta try and weigh yourself at the end of each video, maybe add a map of where you travelled in that day or even prank call Natsuki each time. Preferably all 3.

Himeji Castle, whilst impressive in size, is a little bit "meh" and an arse to climb (especially after a long cycle). I do strongly suggets the nearby gardens, though. They're stunning!

Or his balls.

You could do local food challenges. I bet most places have their "giant gyoza challenge" or something of the sort.

Have to say I am now worried about Chris lasting the whole 2k as he’s not mentioned anything about riding a bike (apart from that little trip around the lake). Fitness might be there, bike fit might be right, shorts (and cream) too, but if his arse isn’t used to riding yet he may be very very sore after four days or so. It’s rare for people to go from no cycling to every day without some initial discomfort. (Particularly if it rains)

And I do quite like the idea of a daily challenge or dare that has to be completed by the end of the day, or days heavily (like, comically/unnaturally but still culturally sensitive) themed around whichever places are a part of the cycle, but I can also see how those arent quite the hook you’re looking for. Though they’re both probably good for the slightly clickbait titles.

Chris have you considered a bike mounted gimbal for the trip?

I like that general weight loss advice and the acknowledgement that it’s in your head and hard to internally motivate. In some ways people’s metabolism is against them in that battle so it probably helps when the motivation is even stronger than the forces against you.

The drone footage has really taken your videos to another level! Super looking forward to seeing your journey unfold!

30 days of anything might get a bit old, how about rotating through focus topics? It seems like every tiny place in Japan has a food specialty. It’s a strange concept outside of Japan. You could rotate through food, viewer challenge, local attraction, person you met... and keep the videos short so we *can* watch every day without going crazy.

Katherine Donaldson

Speaking of Mt. Fuji you really should find a wat to get your climbing video back up, if for no other reason than to beat Sharla once again.

John and Marcella

Can't wait to see this whole experience unfold!!

Jackie NerdEcrafter

1 hour.

I agree on the loss of the personal touch by having someone other than yourself filming the latest video. Also, the succession of the clips ended up not being as smooth as it should.

rafa UGM

Japanese learning question. When you said "give you the kick you need", were you half thinking of the word きっかけ? As for the question at the end, you should probably commit a crime, and give a daily report on how close the police are to catching you.

I was thinking to myself lately that Chris is looking really healthy. I just wonder how long after the cycle till he eats family market chicken?

I. Am. So. Excited. For. Chris. Broad. Daily. Cycle. Vlogs. Also, japan must contain enough weird and wonderful for the daily videos to sort of write themselves. I’m sure they’ll be plenty of interesting sights along the way to warrant 200k views a video! People will just be along for the journey anyway 😁

Could I borrow the gimbal? It looks like a great piece of equipment.

rafa UGM

Also second

So you're cutting down on family mart chickin?

rafa UGM

I can’t wait for the travel series. Good luck on the upcoming bike ride and gig’em from Texas A&M.

Also first

Raghav

Congratulations on the weight loss!
