Abroad in Japan Podcast | Episode 1 | Valentines Day

Hey guys!

So here it is, our first pilot episode for the Abroad in Japan Podcast! It was a lot of fun to make and something I've been wanting to do for years now.

The only problem was I didn't know anything about Podcasts, and I needed a decent co-presenter to make it work; with that in mind we've got one of London's top radio DJ's - award winning Podcaster and self professed Japanophile - Pete Donaldson on board, and I'm delighted to say I think it works.

In our first episode we discuss Valentines Day and using `Tinder in Japan, stalking Ken Watanabe, the tallest upcoming skyscraper in Tokyo and the most recent tsunami video!

The show will be weekly out every Wednesday on iTunes and on acast  - one of the top apps for podcasts - as well as PlayerFM.

You can listen to the first episode now on acast just by clicking here: https://aca.st/4701c7

And you can also subscribe on iTunes where the show will shortly be appearing:https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/abroad-in-japan/id1338558972?mt=2

I'm optimistic the Podcast will definitely improve over time as I get to know how it's all done and I learn how to talk non-stop for 45 minutes.

Weekly Patreon vlogs will resume in a few days; while I've been in the UK I've not been doing anything worth showing in particular - mainly prepping for the upcoming weeks and the onslaught of Youtube videos and Podcasts, as well as getting some stock footage of London to slot into Natsuki: The Movie which is now on target for an early Spring release as we edit and stitch it together.

Many thanks to you all for the kind words on the most recent video about the tsunami and Tohoku. The response was incredible! I really had no idea how it would go down and clearly this new type of documentary style format has a place on the channel amongst the usual vlogs!

It's got my mind racing for potential documentaries going forward. Once we've got the Podcasts up and running and Natsuki: The Movie out the way, the next target will be getting something on Netflix.

Maybe that will take us a step closer to getting Ken Watanabe in a video ;-)

Enjoy the Podcast everyone, be sure to leave your thoughts below and I look forward to catching up with you all in the coming days!

Chris the Youtuber.

Many thanks Ray! Fantastic to hear great people such as yourself are still discovering the channel and connecting with the videos!

Awesome podcast Chris! Pete is an awesome co-host! Thoroughly enjoyed the chats and banter. Excited for you guys. I am a very new subscriber to Abroad in Japan on YT, found you like a week ago, watched your stuff non-stop, Loved it. Your wit and humor is perfect and you have a real human touch esp with Natsuki. Loved the last video about the lives after the tsunami. Thanks for the great channel! You got my patreon support!

Haha that’s ridiculously lucky

Abroad in Japan

Never delved into podcasts before, but this is definitely something I'll be listening and looking forward to every week. Great work, Chris :)

put it on YT plz

will

45 minutes went by like a breeze. Stellar episode!

That was fun. I really enjoyed. Keep going, if you still make Videos. 😁👍

Brilliant

I listened this morning and really enjoyed the podcast!

You made a fantastic choice with your co-host! You two work really well together, and I imagine you'll only get better with time!

No word of a lie, the only 2 podcasts I actually regularly listen to are The Football Ramble and The Luke and Pete Show. Imagine my luck when the single patreon subscription I have joined forces with Pete Donaldson! It's like a magic! Cheers!

I really enjoyed this! Keep it up, soviet-lord and I will continue to supply you.

I was listening to it at work trying not to laugh, also I’ve been using tinder to try and learn/stay motivated to learn Japanese for about 6 months, it’s been working very well and I get to learn about Japanese culture as well 😁

Looking forward to the next one!

Chris, thank so much for doing this. I subscribed without a second thought. I will definitley be tuning in every week. Thanks again :) im going to raise my pledge after payday

This is the first time I've ever listened to an entire podcast (I always got bored of others within 5 minutes) and I have to say, it kept me engaged and entertained completely. Good job, Chris!

Spotify coming?

`Coming from a top Irish photography genius, it's quite the compliment ;)

I love your YouTube stuff and I try to keep up with Patreon so I'm sure I'll love this too. Who knows you may become the 2nd person I actually listen to podcast-wise. And I don't really listen to podcasts.

Bitey Mad Lady

I realy liked it. 👍

One of the best things I’ve ever put in my ear-holes. And you can quote me on that, Chris.

the long wait for the release of natsuki the movie continues, will it become a legend like half life 3?

Great first episode! I enjoyed it, you and Pete work well together and made me laugh several times (especially the post-it notes anecdote). Looking forward to more!

I just downloaded my copy! Will listen on my way to work.

I. LOVE. PODCASTS. This is a really neat surprise. Can't wait to listen to this!

That part about having to go out and drink afterwards. I live here in the US. And I work at a Target store. It is actually in the store book that we are not allowed to hang out with any one of a higher team member rank outside of work. So there is no going out after work to drink with your team lead and managers and store managers. We aren't allowed to associate outside of work.

Stalking? That's no fun. Just start sending him fan works. Fan art, fan fics and tribute videos :D

Fantastic podcast. If you can keep the quality like this I'm sure the show will exceed all expectations.

Great podcast! I first thought of Jenga when they announced the wooden skyscraper. 😂 I hope you meet Ken Watanabe one day...

Is there any chance you can publish the podcast episodes directly to Patreon as well, so we can just listen via the app?

Richard Marchand

This podcast sounds pretty professional. There's a lot of low quality podcasts out there so it's great to see that you're releasing something that sounds well produced.

Great podcast! Looking forward to the next one Chris & Pete :)

Very good stuff. You guys have a good chemistry. Looking forward to more :)

It's fair criticism! Especially given I don't personally listen to Podcasts and I know a chunk of viewers will never tune in. I'm not doing the Podcasts to escape being a Youtuber - my love is and always will be for producing videos. It's what I'm good at and enjoy - the podcasts merely compliment it all. The reason I've dived into the world of podcasting is because it barely takes any time to produce them and thus won't get in the way of making videos! (It's also very fun). But to give you an example, we actually recorded three podcasts back to back in 2 hours today (the first which is released today). And an hour a week spent on a podcast won't ever get in the way of the videos! Finally, I'm fairly confident I'll get better at presenting in the coming weeks; I'm aware I'm not exactly a pro-presenter just yet ;-)

Abroad in Japan

I had to download acast so I can listen. Now I've got something new to listen to. Yay!

haha, that's the exactly the sort of thing I'd expect to hear from Pete

Abroad in Japan

You've never looked better Chris!

I saw an older version of Pete's Wikipedia page that contains this insightful (but now deleted) information. Can you confirm or deny, Pete? "A dedicated world traveler, Donaldson is beloved in Asia, where he is known as 驚くべき衣服の着用者, on account of his startling fashion sense. He speaks 14 Asian languages, has a Chinese wife, and is the Emperor of Japan. Donaldson's acts as Emperor of Japan include making it law for all first-born boys to be given the middle name 'Pardew', as well as commissioning a 300 foot statue of Kevin Keegan to be built in Tokyo. Donaldson is also spear-heading a consortium of super-rich Japanse aiming to buy Newcastle United football club from current owner Mike Ashley."

Just in time for a flight this afternoon! Wanted to add a few more words about the tsunami video- I think your previous videos have been teasing a bit of this documentary style for a while ago, and after watching the tsunami video, I realise it's one major component that made your videos so compelling to watch and made your channel stand out from the usual vlog style. I'm looking forward to your future projects, especially ones focused on this direction!

I want you to take this from a place of love because I've been watching your videos since the year you started (I believe) but part of what makes you so much fun is the video medium and that just doesn't translate into a podcast. I hope you have success in this, absolutely, but I also hope it's not going to reduce the frequency of your other videos overmuch (obviously it will to some extent).

Sleep is for the weak. Time for a podcast. It already popped up in the app I use, so that's a smooth ride.
