THROWBACK FRIDAY | Natsuki's Debut Video

Hey folks!

It's time for "THROWBACK FRIDAY", where every week l introduce a video from the Abroad in Japan channel from years ago, that you've probably never heard of, and talk a bit about it from a behind the scenes perspective.

This week: 2014's Japanese thoughts on British Snacks video, where Natsuki made his debut by eating a packet of crisps and doing a questionably good magic trick.

"Cheese taste 50:50. Onion taste 45. Good percent."
- Natsuki reviewing Crisps

Having met Natsuki six months prior to the video, I realised that this was a man that needed to be put in front of a camera, and having received my annual box load of British goods from back home (literally just a box stuffed full of chocolate and crisps), it was the perfect opportunity to put his reviewing abilities to the test.

I trudged through the snowy winter streets and handed him a packet of Cheese and Onion Walkers crisps and a Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate bar and a star was born.

At the time of posting the video, the channel had about 5,000 subscribers, but after a delighted viewer posted the video to Reddit and it went viral, the video hit 100,000 views by the end of the day.

Natsuki's fan base was subsequently born; no doubt won over by his playful childlike innocence and carefree mentality.

The only problem we had afterwards was numerous viewers had noticed his finger nails were pretty much black - something I hadn't noticed during filming - and soon a wave of comments came along, proclaiming him as some kind of dirty peasant.

ALAS, it was my fault for forgetting to point out Natsuki owns a beauty salon and had spent most of the day working with black hair dye (which is an absolute nightmare to clean off).

Nonetheless, having read the comments, Natsuki didn't handle it overly well, and he's been self conscious about cleaning his finger nails thoroughly before filming to this day.

Wow... people can be bastards... they clearly couldn't appreciate the awesomeness that is Natsuki!

HI - Im a little late posting here as I rarely get time to visit (so doubt you will even see this) and Im also going off topic here, but one of my favourite videos of yours was the xmas one - sooooo as its that time of year, why dont you make another one ????????????? πŸŽ„

I loved this video and have watched it so many times and I've never noticed that Natsuki's nails looked a little black until you just mentioned it. People complained about this? If Natuski was prepping food as a cook or something, I could see why people would be worried about it. It's not a big deal.

Good. This reminds me that I want to go back and re-watch your old videos. I saw them when it was good enough to subscribe and watch. I didn't thumbs up! Bad Heise.

I dye my hair black and have had frequent issues with the staining my hands due to broken gloves... it is hard to scrub off. People are assholes, hope Natsuki didn’t worry about the comments too much. I can’t help but giggle at β€œUn-mistake-bagely” though. πŸ˜… He’s a human treasure.

LOL and that's how Like a Magic was born..

Jesus people can be so damn rude when it comes to pestering people in videos about their grooming habits. Why bitch about his nails? Let the man be! Gotta love Natsuki and all of his persona, thank you for introducing the world to him! :D

It is amazing to me that with a video this good, watching someone try things that he has never tried before and the joy (and horror) he went through... That someone had the ability to focus on his nails. I think Natsuki is AMAZING! Please make sure he knows how happy his video appearances make us!

Victoria McEntire

Aw, poor Natsuki. People are so annoying sometimes.

Chantal Ward

I’m always surprised by how much effort people put into making negative comments, especially on things that are so minor.

It's sad that comments afflicted natsuki like that

Haha this has happened to me before when I was too lazy to wear gloves. ( I couldnt find any on the day and my hair faded to a gross green colour) and ended up with purple patches on my arm and nails from.re dying it purple. I had work at the same night and a few customers would ask If I got beaten up by my boyfriend because of my bruise-like appearance. I kinda took that personality too.

that does need to go on a tshirt

Wow. I never noticed the dyed fingernails. Does Natsuki do any crazy haircuts for Halloween or cosplay? Maybe not sense where he lives isn't super populated.

I love this video. I said "unmistakebagelly" so much after I saw this my coworkers thought I was crazy. Its still so funny!

How about β€œFlashback Friday”? :)
