PATREON VLOG | 5 Things I Want From Next Year & Upcoming Videos

Hey guys!

I hope you've all had a good start to the week so far, and are enjoying the start of the holiday season!

In today's vlog as well as talking a bit about the recent videos and what to expect later this week, I also look ahead into 2018 and talk about what kind of things I hope the year will bring. (I'd like to say I looked into my crystal ball, but in reality it was more like looking into my Dominos Pizza). I actually filmed the vlog yesterday evening, hence why I use words like "Monday" - so don't worry, I've not gone completely bonkers (just yet anyway).

In the vlog I mentioned there are 3 videos out this week (and there are). However, the second video out this week (12 things not to do in Japan) is being pushed back to next week, as I want to spend a bit more time on it and in its place, I'm hoping to do another vloggy style video this week featuring Natsuki (who I'm seeing tomorrow for the first time in a while!)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't stressed at the moment; as well as working through lots of videos and Natsuki the movie, I've got the scary and unpleasant experience of renewing my visa in the coming weeks, and as any foreigner in Japan will tell you, it's anything but a fun experience. Few experiences in life require such a staggering amount of paperwork (and luck when it comes to how generous immigration are).

But for now though folks, tuck into the vlog, and go and ahead share your plans and goals for 2018! WHAT do you want from next year? Remember to be bold and put yourself outside your comfort zone.

And if you haven't seen yesterday's video with a ridiculously cool man wearing snazzy sunglass you can watch it here:

Have a great few days guys!

Chris

(P.S. Also for fellow Star Wars fans out there, tickets are booked for Friday! I don't know about you, but I'm disturbingly excited to see it given the positive reviews so far).

Hiring someone to edit your videos would be a mistake unless you'll go all Nazi on the editor to keep it close to your style, which we love. Love the day in your life video a lot. Please make more.

Late to this, as I've just signed up as a patron but: Iceland is a great place to travel to that has that 'wow' factor. I went earlier this year and it was like visiting another planet.

I'm always down to hear pizza opinions

I also wanted to add that I really enjoyed your Day in the Life video. I've seen a lot of YouTuber's do them, and mostly it's been underwhelming and boring. But you honestly made it entertaining and fun to watch (and not just because it wasn't really an "average day").

Also working on my fitness...one of my biggest goals in 2018 is to be able to finish a routine on the aerial silks without feeling like I am going to die (or falling and dying). Looking forward to your videos in the new year!

I am super late finishing this video... but I am totally down with the idea of you, Natsuki, Ryotaro, and secret cameraman filming a trek on horseback through Mongolia in the future. 🐎🐎🐎🐎 😆

1. Work on mental health. 2.Do more things I want to. 3. Reduce anxiety. 4. Work on budgeting better. 5. Try my darnedest to get a job, and definitely one I want rather than a filler job.

Awesome image/video quality

Collaboration can be great -but do it where it makes artistic sense not just for views :) ....for places to visit-try Pacific northwest in the US :)

1. Study hard get the JLPT N3 and maybe even N2 2. travel more around Japan 3. make some nice videos in Japan. 4 try too reach 500 followers

Great list there, Chris! I liked the idea of putting the goals for the next 6 or 12 months on the wall so you can get constantly pumped. Some of my wishes in 2018 include - 1. Settling down in Japan 2. Getting fit in terms of getting healthier, not in appearance 3. Solo travel and explore in depth my inner self 4. Keep more money so I can frequent my overseas travel to meet my girlfriend :) Having too many ambitious wishes can be overwhelming, but I hope to tackle them one by one like you and the others do. Cheers!

1. Get fit for both health and looks 2. Get enough time and money to visit Japan (My fall trip was cancelled due to student's loans needed to be repaid and no time due to work) 3. Study harder 4. Being more social and outgoing 5. Something profound

MONGOLIA YES PLEASE

thanks for another awesome video! I dont think people really understand how much time goes into just one video so this video is great to get an inside look into that! Im getting ready to go to japan for the 3rd time in april next year so my goal is fitness to - i want to make it all the way to the top of the mountain at fushimi inari taisha! because daymn those stairs are a killer! good luck with all your goals Chris and thanks for all the hard work you put in! - Brigitte all the way from Australia

In my own experience, working out for health reasons rather than to look good is vastly more motivating. Week by week getting stronger, happier, and more energetic is such an amazing experience that I started to want to work out. It became something to look forward to.

One thing on my list for 2018 is to visit Japan ... we'll start with Tokyo 1st. Another thing is starting a semi-business for film photography and darkroom printing where the word "digital" will be worse then a swear word :)

One goal should definitely not be to work yourself to an early grave. lol I actually really enjoyed the Day in My Life video, so maybe you can afford spending less time on editing. ;) My main goal for 2018 will be to pass the JLPT N1 in December. I passed the old Level 2 over 10 years ago when I was still living in Japan but didn't keep up with it since moving away so it's going to be a bit of challenge. But at least it got me studying seriously again. :)

I'm really looking forward to your monthly vlogs then! Also you don't need to hire someone to edit your videos, just take your time and do it howsoever you wish, I love your editing style anyway! Also Im not a fan of new years resolutions, its a good way to lock decisions down but if you're not determined enough to do it throughout the year/ start throughout the year, you're probably not gonna make it (speaking from experience)

I've taken upon myself to actually do some proper goal setting. I got a workbook from a YouTuber who has created a planner type thing for the purpose of getting the most out of 2018. Above all, I just want to be productive and make investments in my 20s that I can enjoy in my 30s.

20 years! that's freakkin' awesome! :O *high five* for soloing!

Woo! I'm soloing it too *high five*

What I want for next year is to thank all the people that have really helped me study Japanese for the past 20 years. It's going to be the first time that I'll be solo traveling too, so I'm super pumped for next year!

I love your editing style, and think unless you get an editor that's totally in tune with that, that might take something away from your videos.

Love your list! here's my 5 things for 2018 I guess :) 1) save money 2) find more energy to get out of bed more 3) reach 10,000 subscribers on my youtube channel :) 4) get out of cornwall more 5) improve my health and hygiene :)

Ugh, food guilt... You're just eating a pizza, not blowing up an orphanage. Anyway, I really enjoyed the vlog because it was so everyday life with shots of walking through the train station and taking the train. It's probably boring to you but so interesting to us. We hear the Japanese announcements, see the writing, observe the people, and it becomes apparent that even though it's just a train station, it's in a whole new world so different from our own. We want to see the daily things in life that can be so confusing, such as struggling to figure out a Japanese iron. It's your real life and that's what intrigues us. I hear vloggers often say they don't know why we want to watch a boring "day in the life" video. But we do. We're looking at your everyday Japan with fresh, eager eyes. We are curious as to what your real life is like, unscripted with minimal editing. We like being taken along with you. So I'm all for vlogs, obviously. Bonus that they're easier to edit. I do agree that Japanese pizza is underwhelming. If you can find someone to sign you in on an American military base, you'll find better pizza and more western food options like buffalo wings, real bacon, and that artery-clogging but incredible real cheese. It's a nostalgic refresher I enjoyed on occasion while living in Japan. Of course, you're a Brit, so not sure how nostalgic it'd be for you. Damn Brit ;)

I'm visiting Japan in 2018 !! First International trip ever and that too solo :D I guess N4 Japanese will help me around well enough :)

I think it would be better to release videos at a slower pace if you get the feeling that editing takes too long. I mean it's clearly visible in the videos that a lot of time went into them and the main appeal of your channel besides Natsuki is that you provide well edited, interesting and funny content that clearly a lot of effort went into. I would much rather keep seeing that than you making as many videos in a short amount of time as possible. (as much as I like seeing more videos!) Hiring someone to edit your videos might feel different to viewers since everyone has got their own style in terms of editing and the person might do a worse job than you. Nothing wrong with editing faster, but unlike many others you provide quality rather than quantity!

Goal for 2018? Make it to 2019.

Hey Chris, I too have tickets booked for Friday. - Here's a 4 hour long Adobe Premiere Editing Guide by the main editor from the LinusTechTips Channel(4.8Mil Subs) https://youtu.be/O6ERELse_QY - IT HAS TIMESTAMPS, IT'S NOT THAT CRAZY. Maybe you'll find watching some of this helpful, he has lots of very handy editing tips.

Get my driving license, move to London (it's more a must than actually wanting to), go back to work in entertainment production, eat healthier, rent an apartment all by myself (no chance in hell) Really looking forward to the monthly day in your life vlogs, I always love watching those and I think the one you did worked out great! I bet it must've been funny watching you talk to yourself around Tokyo. I might try to do one for my sisters when I'm over there, it'd be a nice memory to have!

Milena Raschia

Laugh more, walk more, sleep more, love more, live more! Retired and visiting Japan for an extended stay March/April/May ... to see if/where I would like to live in Japan. Look forward to your new year of goals!

Julie

I want to visit Japan in 2018! I had a family emergency that prevented me this year, but I am determined to make it in 2018.
