Patreon Vlog | Hotel Room Tour, Narita vs. Haneda, Natsuki: The Movie

Hey guys!

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far!

So for this week's Patreon vlog (above), I show you around my little Ryokan (traditional inn) hotel room, chat about the worst airport in Tokyo, and above all, discuss what's going on with Natsuki: The Movie!

Given that there's a hotel room tour and a few clips in this video, it didn't make sense to have the vlog as an audio download this week, but I hope you enjoy the video and accept my apologies for the delay on Natsuki: The Movie.

I feel like if there's anyone I need to justify the delay to it's you guys, as it's a Patreon funded project; but fundamentally the priority is on making it as good as we can and potentially make you think and feel something when you walk away from it.  Hopefully I explain myself in the vlog!

If you guys have any questions though, comment below! And if you've flown into Tokyo via Haneda/Narita, what's your thoughts on the best airport?!

Enjoy the vlog!
Chris

Patreon Vlog | Hotel Room Tour, Narita vs. Haneda, Natsuki: The Movie

Comments

When I went to Japan a little over a year ago for the first time I landed at Narita airport and I'm so incredibly glad that I did. That one hour train ride was an incredibly eye opening experience, as I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the foreign country that I could see just outside the window. Not saying it's for everyone, but I felt like I should mention it.

"Yarrh way fuck is Natsuki The Movie not out!" "yearh" Thanks for the videos Chris, excellent.

Mike Prater

I agree with this. Even just general blogs with little to no editing would be great for additional content we can consume more regularly rather than wait for the major videos to come out :)

Hey Chris. We will go to Sendai tomorrow. We have 6 hrs in the city (12-6pm) what do you recommend?

Hey Chris! I'll be living in Tokyo for three months this year and have been watching your videos to get a feel of what it will be like. I know you put a lot of effort into your videos, even these patron vlogs, but I know myself and probably a lot of other patrons wouldn't care if you just did a simple vlog once or twice a week as well. Just talking about your day or showing what you're up to with really minimal editing, just you talking about anything. You're very charismatic and I think a lot of people, including myself, would love to see more of you :)

I've only flown to and from Narita so far, but I really hope to fly to Haneda next time. Partly because the trains take so long from Narita (and don't have great scenery) but mostly because the monorail journey just looks so good, going through Tokyo bay on an elevated track...

I recently flew into haneda and then flew out of narita a few weeks later and definitely hands down haneda is the best. Narita is monstrous and kind of ugly and very busy! Whereas haneda is a lot more chill and also close to Tokyo! Also can't wait for Natsuki the Movie! The perfect Christmas gift.

Natsuki! I don't want him to be stressed, but I also don't want him to have health problems from smoking. Do they use vape pens over there? Has he had a chance to try it? I'd send him the one I bought for my mom which she failed to use... It may have been wasted on her, but I've had 2 friends convert to those. He seems like such a good-hearted person, you as well, I see it through the snark. I wish you both health and continued success. I'm really looking forward to the movie. No worries about the delay. がんばって!

From what was advertised as a low budget comedy video now sounds like an interesting study of natsuki as a person. I hope this film attracts a lot of attention to you as a creator Chris

Those are very touching comments about Natsuki there Chris... I know what it's like to have frustrated ambitions. He's met a great friend in you I think. Excited for the movie!

Man, this little teaser for the movie makes it look so good. It's a mature, serious side of Natsuki I've never seen and it makes me want to take a deeper look. I can't wait. At first it was just kind of a silly movie about Natsuki and all his antics, and don't get me wrong, I was going to watch it. But now, rather than just being curious to see what he gets up to, I'm looking forward to taking a closer look at his life and learning more about Natsuki as a person. Well done on the cinematography, and I know the ending will be amazingly worth the wait. :)

Chantal Ward

It's amazing! My mom's a heavy smoker and she said the exact same thing when I asked her when she'll stop :D I'm really excited about the movie, but take all the time you need! :) Thank you for your great work! :)

love the new nightlife video chris :)

What an amazing ending to Natsuki the moving. Well worth waiting for.

That sounds like the perfect thing to do honestly... releasing the movie around Xmas, I mean. I love the plot concept as I can totally relate to it. It’ll be great and so worth the wait! 😃✌️

Laura Beaumont

AAAAA I'm so excited for the movie, I've actually never ever been so excited for a movie release since, I don't know... LoTR? I'd like it so much if I could watch it at a theatre, we have a small one here that plays all sorts of international more or less underground stuff (when I go we're often like 15 in the room), couldn't you have it released in places like that? I'll go harass them if that helps.

I'm very intrigued by the clip at the end. This movie is looking to become very deep and personal, and less a series of montages of Natsuki visiting Europe than I expected. So excited!

Errol246

Really, honestly, Narita is fine. I'm sure Haneda is objectively better, but Narita just has more connections and it's cheaper. Only weak point is the cost of going to Tokyo from Narita.

Errol246

Are you worried about the typhoon at all?

Can't wait for the movie, but release around Christmas.. i dunno man.. You're up against Star Wars :P

Adam Penner

Love the news about the movie!

I am absolutely with you, Alex.

Hey, thanks for the video! :) Well, one plus-point for Narita: Narita temple. ;) "Touristy" but definitely worth a visit. When I flew to Japan last time, we stayed in Narita for the last night. Enjoying the temple on the last evening, sitting in the garden, watch the Koi-carps and just live through the Japan-experience once more in this setting was a wonderful "round-up" for the trip.

Flying to Tokyo in December luckily Haneda and it was even cheaper than Narita

Stoked for serious Natsuki. I'd imagine it's not a Natsuki we'll get often.

What a thumbnail.

Hey Chris, I'm so glad you decided to postpone the release of Natsuki: The Movie for that kind of reason. I am totally OK with the wait if it is to get a greater ending and it makes you more satisfied with the project. I'm especially happy that you are making a movie that talks about a more philosophical/critical topic instead of just the glittery stuff that documentaries tend to focus on. I support this 100%.

Also, Life is Balloons: when they lift, they go where the wind takes them, not knowing where they may land. Life carries us along like the wind carries the balloon, and while the balloon pilot has some control if they know the winds and how to fly, not everything is in their hands.

JBS

Yeah, Haneda is better, but all the flights in were sold out into it so I got stuck with Narita. Likewise, I could only get United back to Newark not ANA to New York JFK with my miles and that flight is only out of, you guessed it, Narita.

JBS

Well shit, I just booked a flight to Tokyo from Nagasaki and I chose Narita.

Objectively, Haneda is better. But Narita was my first and so it just feels right.

Mark Rogers

also, I'm happy to wait however long it takes for the movie to get to the place you want it to be. I'd rather that than a rushed product you're unhappy with that hasn't reached it's full potential!

Janelle

Haneda > Narita every time

Janelle

One of the many things that separates Abroad in Japan is the layer of introspection. The humor and well paced cinematography pulls you in, but it's the reflection on the experience that keeps the video relevant; even when you're not watching. The ending discussed seems to be pulling on a thread that is uniquely human; regardless of time or place. Can't wait to see the whole thing!

Jason

Looking forward now for the movie. I was not that interested in it before tbf, but now I am haha. Btw Chris, if it makes you feel better, you have now more subscribers than the population of the city where I am from. Tallinn which is the capital of Estonia has around 500k people living in it. So on a scale you have a whole city + nearby areas subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!

saiko

I'm looking forward to your video! I always have hard time thinking of titles and names for things. Here's another idea for Natsuki: the Movie, "Lost Intentions" or "Lost in Intention"

Featherfield... I guess i will always remind that by seeing the Kanji by our next Japan Trips. Thanks for that!😀

He said in the Video that there will be no download this time...

The movie’s got a nice classic feel.

Willing to wait longer, for more of Natsuki. Everyone deserves a chance to change their life . . . I'm doing that right now.

Julie

I agree with Kim above, Natsuki makes us smile without trying. I'm feeling the same like my life isn't what I'd hoped for, which I'm trying to change with a trip as well by going to Tokyo next month. I have a feeling the movie will be inspring and overall great to watch. I can't wait! <3

The Tokyo Shuttle Bus and Access Narita bus are only $10 and takes about a little over an hour as well from Narita.

Ahh Natsuki <3 He always makes me smile even without trying. He definitely is a born performer. It makes me sad to think he feels like he didn't live his dream , I feel like we should make his new song go viral after the release of the movie. I also think you both brought a much needed light into each others lives in the non cheesiest way possible. ITS LIKE A MAGIC. <3

Hanada (or Featherfield Airport, as I like to think of it) is definitely better, but when you leave, don't do as I did and mistake the "I" on your itinerary for a "1", and go to the (entirely domestic) Terminal 1 instead of the International terminal. Pro tip.

Where's the mp3 download? :(

I'm visiting Japan in January (a once in a lifetime thing, I still can't believe its happening) and thankfully we're flying into Haneda. My first proper view of Japan will be on the monorail out of Haneda just as the sun is rising. Can't think of a nicer way to start the experience.

Dragonnox

I think it's simply amazing that through your channel you were able to give your friend is mojo back. Of all the thing gifts you can give, this surely has to be the best.

Really looking forward to this--but do take your time finishing. :) I admire the kind of friendship you guys have, even with a significant age gap. It makes me think of my lovely mentor/friend (a creative nonprofit dude in his 40s). What would I do if I wanted to try to talk about the things that have happened in his life? It's not easy to do someone justice, but I'm glad you wanted to give it a shot! It adds something special to your content.

I honestly forgot about the release date for The Natsuki Documentary movie. Life's busy I don't mind when it comes out. You and Natsuki are like a trustworthy brand, like Schweppes. I see it and I wont be disappointed.

Mitch

"I'll stop when I'm dead": see, Natsuki was born to be a punk rocker! I'm really looking forward to the film.

Sheepless

TBC but likely next weekend!

Abroad in Japan

I agree Haneda is the better airport, but the airline I frequent on doesn't fly into it :/ So I have to deal with Narita :P But it's not that major of a deal to me to be honest. That bit from the movie was great, and depressing at the same time. It looks like it's going to be good, and I can't wait for this new ending.

brilliant little vlog :D i feel like a millionaire for getting to see the early natsuki clip xD really looking forward to the Q&A! also, there are editing suites in the world .. and then there's that one :D!

Haneda was perfect. Chosed a specific flight to get there

cant watch the video atm, so sorry if u answered that in it but.. when is the next livestream ? month's about to be over :D
