48 Hours in Sapporo | New Video!

Hey folks,

I hope you all had a spectacular weekend!

So the new Sapporo video is finally up - apologies for this video being a few days late. It took a bit longer to edit than I'd anticipated and I spent an extra day stabilizing a lot of the footage, which helped boost the production quality of the video overall! (Hopefully you'll see the difference on a lot of the shots).

Overall, I'm really happy with how the video turned out and if you're a Natsuki fan, he's a joy to behold in this one!

We also piloted new onscreen "tips" which pop-up throughout the video with interesting and useful facts! It's part of my diabolical plan to make these videos more educational going forward. Let me know what you think though; good or bad idea?

In other news, I had my ALMOST ONE MINUTE of fame the other day, when I featured on UK television, on a tv special called "Trump vs North Korea". I'd hoped I'd get more air time (given they interviewed for at least 6 minutes), but it was a fun little cameo. Thanks to Jack Sadler (a patron) for recording it though! You can see the groundbreaking sequence here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wwgnik3pztxj9yi/abroad%20in%20japan%20itv.mov?dl=0

This week's Patreon vlog features an interview Ryotaro, where I submitted your questionsto the man himself  - it'll be out tomorrow so keep an eye out for that, but for now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the new Sapporo video!

And of course, let me know what you think did or didn't work in the new video!

Thanks guys,

Chris

I wonder if you could upload the video, keep it 'non shared', let the YouTube idiots demonetize, review and remonetize it and THEN release it? Love how companies continue to 'do these things' that squeeze people that make money for them. Great video's as always by the way.

Just saw the video you made on youtube and felt like i really had to buy this so you can keep making videos for us. I love your videos so freaking much!

Just saw the video where you said you got demonetized. I love your videos and felt the urge to help fund your adventure. First time i've ever felt the need to throw money in a persons direction. Hopefully the $2 help.

Love tips. NEED biscuits. Just joined Patreon (bc - lazy, entitled American), but been watching for many years. These arbitrary monetizaton standards SUCK.

Really interesting. I hope I can see visit it someday. Thanks for showing. :)

The production quality is bloody outstanding man, it's terrific watching how your videos have developed professionally over the last few years. And you're right, spending that little bit extra on soundtracks has given you a massive edge over similar channels. I understand how Natsuki The Movie is a labour of love so please take as much time as you need, you've got your whole community behind you!

This was awesome. I want to go there now. Check I even want to visit the Sapporo factory and I don't even like beer! My only criticism is that those are called cookies, not biscuits. ;) Seriously though, good video and if I ever go to Japan I will try to visit Hokkaido.

I think the tips would be even more readable if you put them a bit more up, so that they are just in the text-safe area. This way they won't be overlapped by YouTube's controls.

Great video Chris, really enjoyed it. I liked the tips but I agree with the comment above, I think they would be better displayed when there is no dialogue as I wanted to listen to the video and read the tips at the same time which was a little distracting. Loved the use of the slow mo footage at the end!

I'm not sure about Chris, but I'd love to share them with all the fans! You can find the Natsuki Fan Club on Instagram and Facebook. 😜👍🎈

LOVE 'Abroadians'!

Awesome! Visually, technically and overall productionwise on another level while still retaining the personality and feeling of "closeness-to-the-viewer" of the vlog. Would love more travel-style videos along with the daily-life videos and gags. The popups were great but I think they would be better placed at times when there is no narration or dialogue since concentrating on both is quite difficult

Really fantastic video!! what stabilisation software techniques do you do :)? thanks again for the 3 shoutouts!! ps i'm so chuffed that biscuit tin made it to the video xD!! hahaha!

Great video. Really like the music in the slow-mo sequence at the end, what is it?

Great video. The tips were neat but I'd find them distracting if used in every video. Maybe use them every two or three vids just to see if we're paying attention :D. Thanks for another great video, Chris!

I did enjoy the video as always. Loved the tips. In my opinion what would be good as well in this sort of videos is to write maybe the address of the place that you have visited (restaurant or bar) for an easier search?

saiko

Wow, that was really good work: very professional! And so much Natsuki goodness!

Sheepless

Great video, Chris! I'm digging the production values :). I agree with Peter's comment above that it would be worthwhile leaving the tips on a little longer, and I would add to that that it's best when they don't coincide with your voice-over; I just couldn't read and listen to you at the same time!

I don't use Twitter despite being in my 20s--how else can your fans send corny merchandise selfies? (P.S. The stabilization efforts were worth it, everything looked amazing.)

Fantastic video. I loved the "tips" feature but I'm a bit of an eternal student. You keep improving your skills (in front of the camera, behind the camera and in the "editing bay"). As Dyonisius says, keep up the good work.

Dr Dia

Great video! I really like the cinematic shots in this video. Keep up the good work Chris!

"A sincere 10/10 audiovisual experience". That's a serious marketing tag line right there!

Abroad in Japan

My shirts JUST arrived. They're fabulous! I'm going to wear them while I'm there and see if I can run into other Abroadians.

The new tips pop-up is a genuinly nice feature (although you should consider leaving them on screen for an additional 3-5 seconds, to avoid people from having to pause). All together, the cinematic shots, story telling, Natsuki's point of view and the new tips give it a nice documentary style and make it a sincere 10/10 audiovisual experience. Keep up your great work!

Fantastic video as always, loved the bit at the end with Natsuki almost like some cyberpunk film intro.

in the European sweet review he broke a filling and said he was "dental broken"

I love the tip idea, and it actually looks really good in the video, it looks professional and yes! Keep doing it. The view from the TV tower is amazing, it's a different type of layout of a Japanese city too. Melon bear human dental - I need it on a tshirt, and that tin is life, I need one X)

Natsuki just saying 'dental' in response to the melon mascot absolutely cracked me up. I swear he's referred to teeth as simply 'dental' before at some point? It's adorable and incredibly funny :)

I'm glad you had no power issues this time around with your interview. :-) I wish I had time to squeeze in Hokkaido this trip, but it's going to have to wait until next year. I did, however, alter my original plans and booked a room at Shonai Base and plan to see Yamadera, so there's one more tourist you coerced into Tohoku.

You've made it now Chris! Soon the moolah is going to be rolling in! Jokes aside, to bad they didn't use more footage. Can't wait to see the new video!

Awesome video! That biscuit box is the best thing Ive ever seen.

I found myself pausing the video a lot to read the tips. Maybe I just haven't had my coffee yet.

Gaw

The tips are great they add a bit more to the videos :)

Praise be to Overlord Ryotaro! ;)
