*NEW WEEKLY PATREON VLOG* | Abroad in Japan

Hey folks!

So today marks the launch of the new weekly Patreon vlog!!

I've been planning it for a while - I've really wanted to spend more time with you all face to face and this week seemed like a fitting time to start, against the backdrop of the North Korean missile video.

All is explained in the video - although I apologise in advance for the tired face and somewhat lack of energy, given this nightmarish week. In the many vlogs to come, I'll at least wear some make up first - or use clever CGI trickery to hide it.

I'm looking forward to spending more time with you all and showing you life behind the scenes! From now on, wherever I go - you go too (for better or worse).

Chris

I love the channel and your wit. I get it.

Amaiaisuru

Looking forward to see a vlog every week <3 thank you for the great time you give me watching your videos! I switched from coffee to chai tea (with black tea), now drinking more of this, than coffee before ^^' curious how it works for you.

New vlog is now up! I live!

Abroad in Japan

Or could it be that in addition to giving up coffee, Chris is dieting again? Weakened from a lack of Family Mart Fried Chicken, Tokyo Bananas, Kit Kats and caffeine, trying to survive on Sea Chicken, apples and other fruits, he isn't strong enough to reach the keyboard or camera. Say it isn't so, Chris!

My question is, did a flock of Family Mart Japanese chickens slated for Chris' consumption bribe the bears to take Chris out? And what is the going rate for a chicken boy hit? Or did Ryotoro despair after his many failures and conspire with Kim Jung Un? Or were they all in it together, chickens, bears, Ryotoro and Un? (Taking out the Chicken Boy is hard due to his immense strength from Family Mart Fried Chicken, better than Wheaties, the virtual dinner of Champions). Enquiring minds must know. And the bears want their cut.

No weekly vlog, no coffee video, no merchandise to buy. Either ryotoro has killed Chris, the bears ate him, or Kim Jun Un Norked him with another missile. Please let us know you are still with us. Otherwise Japanese chickens will all rejoice at their reprieve

Out today!

Nope :p weekly vlogs ended already xD

Hopefully there is a vlog tomorrow!!!!!

hahaha Well this weekly vlog thing didn't last long XD to be exact, 1 week :p however the week is not over yet ;)

I agree with you Leo, and she called Chris selfish which is ironic.

Sounds like a shit idea! Just kidding. Do whatever you want. I'll eat it bones and all.

Errol246

I'm cool with that idea. Also, I'm moving to Japan at the beginning of October so I'm excited about that. My parents, however, are not. I look forward to the hydrogen bomb talk that I will be apart of when I see them tomorrow. So thanks NK, super helpful. In any case, you have inspired me to vlog about my time there and thank you for all of the hard work you put into your videos.

Down-to-earth Chris and sarcastic Chris are both great personalities to watch. Do whatever you like my dude, I'll enjoy it either way!

Thank you for always making awesome content. I have enjoyed it since I first saw your video on love hots. Your videos spark my interest in Japan and renew my interest in Japanese culture. Your love hotel videos are hilarious and you usually make me laugh. Keep up the good work and thank you! ありがとう ございま

sarcasm:on couldn't we get a ryotaro or natsuki only vlog instead? sarcasm:off ... but, really. i wanna be friends with ryotaro. please? =)

So glad that our donations have helped you to grow the channel instead of shutting it down. It has been such a useful resource for learning more about Japan than anything else has taught me. And, personally, I feel it would have been a shame if you had stopped because you're such a likeable and awesome person to watch. You may not agree, and maybe all those people who sent hate comments wouldn't agree either, but the people who get you, the Abroad in Japan community, all love and care about you just the way you are. I'm excited for this vlog series as I like seeing you be your natural self. While I find your sarcasm hilarious, I feel like this side of you is more human and helps us to really connect with you on a more personal level. Hopefully you take better care of your health, caffeine-wise. Sorry to hear you can't sleep. That's gotta be wreaking havoc on your system. Don't worry about your plans getting derailed, even though it's crap for you. We all understand and are just happy you're safe. :) And side note, your "tired, awful face" doesn't look nearly as bad as you think. I was even admiring your skin's healthy glow. Haha

Chantal Ward

Cannot wait for what's to come, good luck and all Chris

Do not change, you are wonderful just the way you are. Though I am happy to hear that we finally get to see the real Chris behind the scene soon. Your snarky and sarcasm never fail to make me laugh but getting a glimpse of the real you would truly be a treat. Good luck and more power to your channel. I look forward to the next films.

Really excited to see your vlogs!

Jimofthee the mimic man

Please don't change your style -- not that I think you were seriously considering it. But for the woman who has a 6-year-old son: if she's showing YouTube videos to her son without vetting them first, maybe she needs to rethink her parenting methods rather than expecting the rest of the world to be pre-sanitized for her and her little angel.

Leo

We love you this way :) Looking forward to the coffee video, as I'm trying to give up coffee myself. Good luck with everything!

We got your back. I'm actually arriving in Japan this coming Friday and I was worried about NK's bullshit, your reaction on the video made me laugh and made realize I'm worried over nothing at least in the we know they are dumb for doing this shit, but they aren't so stupid to turn the whole world on them for hitting something.

John Ramirez

Never change Chris, I support you because you're a good person and your sarcastic English tones bring cheer to my ears. Keep up the tremendous work!

The more content from you the better. i always look forward to seeing your videos. There are one of the highlights of my week. Keep up the great work! :)

I'm excited to take a look at all of the merchandise you have! I really want one of those "Like a Magic" T-shirts.

You're giving the name 'vlog' a better reputation these days. Keep up the amazing work!

QVC humor would be awesome. 😂

Looking forward to the weekly vlog, and that shirt is wonderful!

Sophie Counsil

Really looking forward to weekly vlogs :D Great idea!

Love the vlog idea and that t-shirt is golden. Exciting times ahead :)

David Davies

Being a sarcastic sod myself, I fully empathise with you; some people just don't get it! It's put me in one or two awkward situations, that's for sure :P

David Davies

Aaaaand hells to the yes on Patreon vids. But don't wear makeup on your Patreon channel. This is the raw, unfiltered channel. We want to see your mug, ugly or fresh. Let's keep it sacred around here.

Not gonna lie, that last paragraph makes me feel stalked. BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT LIKE A MAGIC!!! I lerve it!! New fave. Can't wait to buy some merchandise!! Hurry up.

Your channel is my favourite on YouTube. I'm so glad that you didn't quit last year! Have you worn make up on the channel before?

More videos made by you = more fun. I like the idea of weekly vlogs :)

Hila and Edward

Plus when you start to get a steady stream of hate online that is how you know you have made it into the big time.

David

The Apple style product launch video for your merch sounds like a great idea! either that or some kind of spoof QVC shopping channel segment cheesily pointing out all the benefits and how it will improve you life

David

At one time, Chris said that he had a mailing address. Does anyone know it?

Don't let all the hate comments get you down Chris, (I know they don't anyway, they pay for your dinner!) it's to be expected when your content is exposed enormously to a wider audience that isn't naturally your own thanks to such a hot topic like a North Korean missile. Great to hear you'll be in Tokyo next week - so will I, as it happens, on holiday! I'll be doing some vlogs too. If you have some free time I'd love to buy you a pint! Let me know if you're interested. :)

Ben CG

Like the weekly vlog, have to admit I like the older sitting in a chair whinging videos more than the more touristy ones, though I know the latter serve a purpose and have a following. One of my favorites is Crime in Japan (the one with Cat Shit One). Love the music and humor in that one. The muppets waiting to drag unsuspecting tourists off etc. Also love the KFC Christmas one. Hopefully the NORK video will give you plenty of material for another hateful comments video. As I mentioned I think a kitkat chocalatory video would be fun. The idea of a store devoted to kitkats is so weird.

Yes! Totally Awesomeness!

Julie

A weekly vlog sounds good, don't worry about the delayed videos you've had a lot going on!

I can understand why some people might not get your"sarcasm mode", I had to tell some of the people, I showed the video, you were not being serious. However I think this was mainly because they did not know about your "character" from your other content. For some people who are not accustomed to sarcastic personalities I'd say its normal to react with some disdain for the way you presented your video, that being said, I don't think you should worry about the backlash, it most likely came from people who do not know you and are not subbed to you. If you are unhappy with the way you presented the video that's one thing, but if you liked it (like i would say, most of your regular audience did), don't feel pressured to justify yourself! It was a great light-hearted way of approaching a unnerving situation. Regardless of all this, love the weekly vlog idea and cant wait for you next video, whatever it might be about! Much love

I was really curious about what happened there. Thanks to your videos. We get a grasp how is life going in Japan. Keep up the good work! Looking forward for that tshirt. Please write down sizes (width, length,...) as centimeters too.

this was so great and down to earth :)

You don't have to explain anything to us Chris, we got it. Surely if you like the 80s, then do it 80s style for the ad? Looking forward to the vlogs too. Jackie

I appreciate your honesty.

I'll be livin in Kyoto for the semester starting this Thursday! Really looking forward to the vlogs Chris. I enjoy your video format more than the written blogs, and I'm gonna need to buy that shirt! Keep up the good work!

SlyMajin

Keep up the fine work, Chris! We believe in you. :) Seriously looking forward to these vlogs--love getting to see you being so open. It's understandable that you might not want to do that on your main channel, given the nature of the Internet. Just do what feels comfortable; we already like you, dude! (American here, sorry haha). Also really looking forward to the merch. I want that shirt you're wearing. And, no pressure, but if you could bring a friend here every once in a while, that would be great fun. ^^ P.S. Please do a commercial parody!

"From now on, wherever I go - you go too (for better or worse)." Looking forward to the bog vlogs then!

I like the written blogs, but this could be cool as well. Good work keeping shit together.

I am looking forward to the weekly vlog.

I'm really looking forward to it! I don't know why I didn't start sooner to be honest!

Abroad in Japan

I personally really liked your missile video not only because you gave us humor out of a bad situation, but you also condemned the idiots that take trips to North Korea. I'm willing to bet you made several people rethink taking a trip there, so less money will go towards supporting the regime. As always I love your videos and best of luck to you! I'm looking forward to the vlog!

I'm living in Tokyo. Let me know if you want any tips for places to check out.

Great idea, looking forward to these weekly updates and especially the merch!

A weekly patreon blog is a brilliant idea, Chris! Don't force yourself to do it when things are hectic, though. Take care of yourself, ya know?

Your vlog is a fine example of good old-fashioned British stoicism. Anyone who criticises you for dealing with a frankly terrifying experience with humour is a moron. My boyfriend's elderly mother lives in Hokkaido. We only found out about what had happened through you! We dropped her a line to make sure she was ok. Don't worry too much about making a weekly Patreon video if things are a bit mad at the moment. I think we'd all rather know you are in good health and well rested.

Mz. Ultraviolence

A video every week would definitely be way better than long posts!! Keep up the good work!

Choong Chin Wei

Chris you without a doubt have the best way of approaching topics while sprinkling in humor here an there

Rylikespotatoes

Love the weekly vlog idea, Thank you

I'm so sorry you're getting hate for your NK missile video. People are missing what a raw, scary moment that was and are probably lashing out because they just don't get it.

Hands down best YouTube channel and can't wait for the merch

Kevin

Woo weekly patron posts.
