People from all around the world were brought together by a Youtube channel and an eccentric Japanese guy who lives in a rural Japanese town - and they've let this ridiculous but brilliant thing happen.
Well hello there!
So first off, I just want to say a huge thanks to you all for the kind comments and feedback on the recent Learning Japanese video. I was worried that people would get bored watching such a long video (the longest I've ever made), especially as I myself have a disturbingly short attention span.
Fortunately, not everyone is like me and the video went down well! It’s been great to talk to so many of you about your own experiences and tips of learning the language and share advice; I’ve always felt learning Japanese has been a collaborated experience through the conversations I have with everyone else who’s embarked on the journey. We’re all in this study nightmare together, and it’s inspiring - and dare I say, heartwarming - to see the support everyone often shows towards one another.
If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/BWhVHkyhnww
Secondly, the TEDx Talk video is now officially up as well, and I’m fairly pleased with how it all turned out. It’s a strange experience watching a video of yourself stood on stage for 15 minutes talking to 200 people about things and trying to sound clever - and whilst it scared the crap out of me at the time, I like to think I did a pretty good job of hiding it nonetheless.

Now on the video front I find myself in the frustrating position of being so busy planning for filming with Natsuki, that this month’s videos are sitting idle, despite there being a long list of videos that have been filmed and are currently in post production. The next two videos are:
Abroad in Japan: 4 Life Lessons I Learnt Before 28
Abroad Perspective: Box Opening video with Natsuki
We’ve also got; Japanese Guy Prepares for Trip to UK, 6 Must Try Japanese Dishes (Aomori Edition), Tokyo’s Best View: 4 Spots Reviewed and Exploring Akihabara with Natsuki.
Beyond that, there’s Japanese Nightlife: Night out in Tokyo and Travelling Japan on a Budget.
All of these videos have been filmed and are in post production and it’s one hell of a lineup. I can't give a date on when they'll be out just yet unfortunately, due to the filming of our first mega project. YOUR mega project, that YOU ALL made happen. A mega project that begins tomorrow!
I took the above photo this afternoon at Heathrow and things are now under way. We start filming in London tomorrow!
If the schedule goes according to plan (which I’ll be amazed if it does), it’ll be one of the most bizarre weeks ever had by a Japanese person visiting the UK.
Given the absence of videos this month (due to Natsuki: the movie), instead, this month there’ll be exclusive behind the scenes content posted to Patreon charting our journey filming through the UK and Paris.
It’ll be like you’re there with us, with behind the scenes photos and videos along the way, as well as details of where we went, and what we got up to, so keep an eye out on here, as there’ll be lots of stuff over the next 10 days.
It is undeniably remarkable when I try to think about what's happened. That people from all around the world were brought together to buy a Youtube channel and an eccentric Japanese guy who lives in a rural Japanese town - and they've let this ridiculous but brilliant thing happen.
In all seriousness though, a huge thanks to you all for making this possible. I forgot to mention, but every Patreon supporter will be featured in the credits of Natsuki: the movie, as an extra (small) token of thanks for giving this crazy idea life, and turning into a 55 minute documentary.
You're as much as a part of this experience as Natsuki or myself, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you all over the coming days.
Many thanks folks, and if you have any questions about the Learning Japanese video, the Tedx Talk or Natsuki the movie, as always, leave a comment or question below and I'll do my best to answer!
