Ask Abroad Live | Tuesday 13th September

So the votes are in and it looks like most of you have voted to see my morning face (again!).

The show will be this Tuesday at 8am Japan time.

If you're in Europe this'll be around midnight on Monday and if you're in the US, you win because you'll be able to watch early Monday evening.

It'll be hosted on the secret second channel and unlisted, so the only way to access it is through this link: https://youtu.be/esxyzxdnJUk

In the run up to the event please your comments, questions and topics for discussion below!

Questions can be about anything; living in Japan, travel, teaching, Japanese, YouTube, Natsuki, etc. However, this week the emphasis will be on travel in Japan. But feel free to ask me anything - either in the box below, or in the chat box on the live show.

I'll also be giving you a round-up of recent and upcoming projects and videos, as well as reading Comment of the week and Most annoying comment of the week from the Abroad in Japan channel.

And for those of you who really can't make it, you can submit your questions here: https://goo.gl/forms/NegLFKYsUSwNicIn1

I'm looking forward to seeing you all there!(And apologies in advance for my morning face).

Best,

Chris

I'm curious if you prefer hostels or hotels in Japan. Any recommendations for Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka accommodations? So far I've only really stayed at business hotels and a couple more standard hotels in those areas. On a related note, favorite ryoukan? Stayed at one in Hakone recently and loved it. Cheers.

Geoff

Maybe the term "food culture" works!

An hour and a half to go and I almost forgot to ask a question-- What region of Japan has your favorite places/things to eat? Not only in terms of regional dishes but also the atmosphere involved (for example I like places with a lot of street food and also quaint dives where you can have a great night with complete strangers)

Denver Dauthe

In the states it will be on monday

I will be unable to make your live show - but I will be sure to watch it after. My question would be: I am planning on going to Japan in 2017 and I will be staying in Okinawa. I will be there for a while and I was hoping to do weekend trips around the islands, but maybe take a week here and there to explore some other places of interest in Japan. One week will definitely be a Tokyo stay. But Okinawa is so far from everything else and plane fare can be expensive. Which other week long trips (2 would be good) would you suggest if you are travelling out of Okinawa? Note - one of those weeks *may* be travelling to Korea since it's really close - have you ever been????

And thanks love the live show the first one was great. I've been using the anki app and it's a really good way to practice

Okay what started you on the path to wanting to be a film maker. If you suddenly had unlimited budget for a film/ series what would it be?

Michael King

Dunno if I'll make this one live so I'll just pose my question here: I'm currently on a long vacation in Japan (5 weeks) and I've found stuff to do in most places, only I'm a bit unsure about some days near the end. Do you have any must-see attractions or places in/near Sendai or along the train routes Hakodate-Sendai or Sendai-Tokyo?

Make sure you post a question though, so I can still answer!

Abroad in Japan

5 PM, going to have to miss another :(

Michael King

We have 3 questions if that's alright! What are the logistics involved with Rabbit Island? Do you have to book it, or can you just show up and get on the ferry? Also, with the Shimanami Kaido, did you rent a bike, or did you use your own? If you rented - any advice as to where to rent from? And lastly - we want to do the Wanko Soba challenge - can you recommend somewhere to do that, without us having to go all the way up north?

So will this be Tuesday for us and Wednesday morning for you, or Monday for us and Tuesday morning for you?

Nick Fletcher

Don't worry, next month l'll make sure you and the other folks watching at that time win.

Abroad in Japan

sweet, i'll try make this one. My question anyway is in regards to the equipment you use for YouTube as I will be studying exchange in Tokyo next year and wish to make some videos. What equipment do you currently use/have used and what would you recommend?

Ben White

Have you seen Shin Gojira yet? It looks good.

Huzzah for winning in PST. :) Here are my various questions (since I didn't really think of any last time)... YouTube related: Can't remember if you've answered this before in a previous video but... Does it bother you when people get offended/upset by what you post (i.e. swearing, dogs in uniform, etc) or can you easily shrug it off? Travel related: What's your favorite hiking trail in Japan? Also are there any popular waterfalls you'd recommend visiting? Lastly will you ever visit the Koga Ninja Village and run through the training grounds? That would be amazing with Natsuki! Food related: What kind of amazing Japanese breakfast will you be eating in front of our drooling faces this time? :D

Laura Beaumont

Lol... I work evenings in the USA so I'll never win this. But it's nice to be able to watch later.
