Abroad in Japan | August Releases

Hey guys and welcome to August!

First off, a huge thanks to you all for your support this month - not only did we smash the first two targets in the first week, but we're dangerously close to the third.

As of this week, I've now been living in Japan FOUR years. It's crazy (and scary) when I think about it. The passage of time often sends a shudder down my spine so I try not to dwell on it too much, but I've been very lucky to tick off many dreams and things I wanted to do since arriving. There's still plenty more targets to go though and I'm excited that this is the year I can finally devote all my time to Abroad in Japan and help people that want to follow a similar path.

I've just returned tired and dehydrated from a 3 day trip to Tokyo, to produce a video in search of Tokyo's greatest view. I visited the Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, The Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and Mori Tower in Roppongi and for me, there was one clear winner. I'm looking forward to revealing all in the video which will be out later next week.

August is going to be a busy month with loads of projects and some really great Patreon exclusive content; here's a list of just some of the awesome stuff to look forward to this month!

PATREON Exclusive Content

The time has finally come to explain how I ended up in Japan. Moving to Japan was the biggest (and best) decision I've ever made. The reason I've never told it before is because it's quite personal and I've always been hesitant to talk about myself at length on YouTube (after all, the channel is supposed to be about Japan not me). That said, I think for many folks, there's some value to be had from re-telling my decision, and I'm hoping it may help push you to do the crazy thing you really want to do deep down.

This will be a live Q&A session held via YouTube (and the first time I've ever done it). It'll be exclusive to $5+ tier supporters and I'll be answering questions submitted by you guys in advance, as well as answering them live. I'll also be giving you my favourite and most hated comments of the week. A poll will be sent out this week to choose the most popular day to hold the Q&A.
This weeks article is "6 Japanese Movies I Get Excited About"

To everyone who's supporting at the $20 tier, you'll receive your personalised clip within the next 3 weeks! And if you haven't submitted your request, please do so ASAP!

Everyone can also expect extra behind the scenes photos along the way as well.

Many thanks guys - wishing you all a great start to the week, wherever you may be on planet Earth!

Chris

haha, what an amusingly glib response. Glad you gave it a go at least ;)

I'm really excited to hear about how you made your decision. As much as I appreciate the modesty you've taken with the channel in keeping content informational and (surprisingly) educational, I've always been super curious about you as a person as well, so it will be cool learning a little more about you. Looking forward to it all!

I have - although I find it fairly boring. I couldn't catch anything and then when I did it didn't bring me any joy

Abroad in Japan

I did the exact same towers a couple years back and put my money on Mori Tower obs deck being the best for the outdoor area alone and the view of Tokyo tower, especially in the evening. Look forward to the video!

Glad to see your putting all of our hard earned cash to good use and not just blowing it all on tiny and expensive pieces of cheese and Sake 😉

Yvette

Taking that leap to move somewhere new can be scary but I say if you feel like it could potentially be the thing you need to do to change your life then GO FOR IT! :) Good or bad decision, at least you tried something different and probably learned a thing or two. It's awesome you went all the way to Japan, looking forward to the story behind that.

Well it appears that August will be a damn good month.

Origin stories are always welcome. Keep it up, Chris, love your work! :)

Schedule looking great! Thanks for the post! :D

Wow! With a list like that, I'm exhausted for you!

Everything you wrote sounds super exciting!

All sounds awesome Chris, looking forward to seeing it! Still waiting to hear if you've touched Pokemon Go :p guessing you haven't!
