Heart Awakening Mudra
Added 2022-01-25 21:37:50 +0000 UTCI hope everybody has had a good start to the year so far!
An interesting thing happens during the month of January especially during the first few weeks. There is a strong influence of Saturn during this period which reflects an energy of setting new boundaries.
Predating Christmas was a festival called Saturnalia starting in mid December in which there was a role reversal between a master and a slave. The slave would become master and the master their slave. The slave got to experience everything he or she could ever want and the master would have to provide it to them.
This Saturnian energy seems to have transferred to the new year where people make new years resolutions. It's almost become a meme how all these resolutions are made but are seldom followed through with but I think it's an interesting exercise. We are able to see what resonates with our higher self and what is from our ego. There is a unique moment of separation from our ego for a brief period where we are no longer slaves to it but uniquely it's master.
We get to experience what we would consider a perfect and fulfilling life and even what we think to be a higher way of living but is not actually from our higher self but from our ego. We think or believe it is good because others tell us it's good, but we don't actually believe it for ourselves yet.
So a good thing to do right now is to look back at last year and some of the resolutions you made at the beginning of the year and actually followed through with. Try to determine how they resonated with your true self and the ones you did not follow through with were most likely ego based and compare your findings with the resolutions you made this year.
In order to be more in tune with your true self, you need to go into your heart and take advantage of having experienced a temporary separation from your ego.
The mudra I am about to show you comes form a Perisan Sufi tradition but shares the collective knowledge and experience of mudra work in other traditions.
Sit in meditation. Cross legged or the Japanese sitting position is best but you can sit in a chair with your feet firmly on the ground. If you can face east that would be better but is not necessary.
Place your palms facing down on your thighs. with all your fingers pointing forwards and as straight as they can comfortably be. Try not to let your fingers hang off your knees as the fingers being straight is important for the mudra to work.
Now turn the pinky (smallest) fingers of both hands inwards so that they point towards you. Ensure that the other fingers are still facing forwards and ideally all the fingers touching each other by their sides.
Hold this position for as long as you can and you will being to feel your arms pump. Then your heart over time you will feel blood pumping to your brain.
If you suffer from hypertension or heart problems, ease into it and don't push yourself. Only hold the position for as long as you comfortable can.
