There are several languages that crop up during the course of When Stars Collide. Originally this language of the MC's was the only one that ever had phrases come up. But as the story progressed, it made sense for other characters to reference native languages in certain contexts.

Originally I just made up words for the occasional reference, but at some point I thought it would be nice to have some consistency in sentence and word structure.

I ended up generating a few languages with different rules and phonetics to ensure that there was consistency within languages while also distinctiveness from each other. Once I had the languages, of course, I utilised them more just because I knew I could.

It's always like that - once an element of world building exists, you end up using it more than expected because the opportunity is there and you know you don't have to dance around it.

Not all these phrases on the sheet get used in the game. But I thought it would be fun to have a list of phrases and words. And, of course, I had to include all the profanity because yes, there is profanity included in the 4000 word dictionary. 🤣

And yes, I do have 4000 words and a whole host of language rules like where "prepositions" go, how articles work, how to alter verbs in various ways or create singular/plurals, etc.

So here is a sneak peek at Eswonian, one of the Veleian languages that Wil speaks - and the one they prefer to use when they do use them.
