16/09/2023 Patreon Devlog (WSC)

Hi everyone! Here is this week's WSC devlog! Apologies if this is a little disorganised - it was a rough week and I'm actually incredibly tired. LoL

Summary

Ramble

Let's get into it....(spoiler alert...it's basically all writing).

Writing

I will be in writing purgatory for a while in regards to this project. So I feel like my weekly updates are going to be...kind of boring. Ha ha.

Specifically, this week, I wrote around 9000 words.

This is a decrease from the last few weeks by a fair amount. I'm still hitting my daily target (and a little extra) but just didn't quite manage to write the abundance of words I wrote in the previous three weeks.

It was just a busy and stressful week due to a lot of "real life" stuff going on (I mean, game dev stuff is also real life - but I'm referring to things outside of game development.)

In addition, the scenes I'm currently working on are just a little harder to write. I need to have them all flow somewhat similarly to existing scenes and also have to really watch my overall word count to make sure they aren't too short or too long.

This always makes it much harder to construct the scenes.

There has been something else going on with the writing for a while now. I've been working on a document with all my planned revisions. I'm actually planning to overhaul a few significant plot elements - mostly involving the motivations of different characters. I would like to have more variety in the route endings. At the moment, I can only come up with 4 different ways for the story to end (and two are somewhat similar.). So I've been really brainstorming ways to make the endings across routes a little more varied so that players just get to experience a wider range of story possibilities (right now the story climax is different in each route, but the resolutions are somewhat similar).

That means that, in addition to the forward progress in writing the scenes to finish the rough draft, I've already been thinking about ways to:

  1. Make the story flow better as a whole
  2. Flesh out the plot and add complexity as a whole
  3. Edit each individual "route" in ways that make each one distinct from the others

The document where I'm keeping track of these changes and the brainstorming is 4000 words. LoL. So yeah!

Art

This week (I think it was this week? Time is already blurring together), I updated some of the current CGs with the new BG art for the conference room. I now have three of them updated and two left to complete.

This isn't a particularly time consuming thing because the new chairs are also simpler than the old ones. It's really just a bit of extra drawing. It has taken around 20-30 minutes per CG at this point.

And I did get another background from the new BG artist. So we are slooowly ticking those off the list.

Upcoming

My goal for the next week is to get Chapter 7 squared away. Chapter 8 has a bit less content per character to write but I am also dealing with a lot of chaos right now in my life. So I don't think, realistically, I can finish chapter 7 and chapter 8 (though that would be ideal for me. LoL)

However, Chapter 8 is the last chapter with any shared/common/universal scenes. I am really looking forward to reaching chapter 9. I'll have a bit more freedom to just write what I want to write for those chapters without having to be so careful about variables and shared content and the like.

I think that is still a couple of weeks out but I'm excited to get there. >=3

Anyway, that's all for now on WSC. And I will see you next week.
