Your Favorite YouTube Channels Might Not Survive This

Hi folks,

The video we’re making this week is a bit of a departure from our usual fare, since it’s about the state of federally funded science research in the US - and the weird and unexpected impact it’s having on science YouTubers like us.

Because we want our videos to be useful for years into the future, we often avoid talking about the news of the day. But in this case, we decided we needed to say something, because a freeze in US government funding would have a hugely negative and potentially irreversible impact on both basic science research and science communication.

You’ll notice we end the video with a few calls to action - including asking folks to support their favorite science communicators on Patreon. Hey - that’s you all! It’s really really lovely that you value what we do so much that you support us with your hard-earned dollars. We appreciate it these days more than ever.

Thanks!

-David

Support from Vietnam! I've just suscribed as your Patreon member and hopefully, the science community might get through this pinch.

Hi Patrick! Agreed that things are chaotic and unclear now. We appreciate your support and totally understand if you or any other patron ever needs to direct funds elsewhere!

I already support Minute .. everything through Patreon (obviously) and several other science communicators. My worry is these cuts will hit more than science. The entire economy is at risk, making it hard to commit to additional expense right now. :( I will not be pulling my Patreon, but I just cannot give more today. Sorry.
