The Ramble:

Remember when I confidently said I would finish editing ch 13 and 14 this week?

Well the universe decided to throw the most *annoying* week at me in retaliation for that confidence. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were chaotic and annoying and I barely got any sleep.

I got very little editing done because I either didn't have time or I felt terrible.

I was finally able to focus on editing properly on Thursday. And I...

Edited half of chapter thirteen.

Realised that at this point in the story a plot point that was mentioned in a much earlier chapter - a plot point I removed - becomes a foundational element for how Chapter 13 ends.

I had completely forgotten that this minor plot point became the lynch pin for the events in Ch 13.

I spent a day trying to edit the chapter and find some way to have the basic flow remain the same without this plot point and finally realised that it wasn't going to work. Every idea I came up with to replace the one plot point and somewhat keep events similar...just wasn't going to work. There wasn't enough story real estate to explain the motivations behind any actions I could substitute in.

Ultimately, I realised I was going to have to scrap the currently Chapter 13 completely. Just none of it was salvageable. And was I going to have to rewrite it. Which would include deleting the end of chapter 12 as well and partially re-writing that.

Sometimes you just find yourself in a place writing-wise where you can't make it work and you have to admit to yourself you need to start from scratch. This was, unfortunately, one of those places.

So...I fully planned out the new chapter beat by beat and have started actually writing it. I actually think the new version is a bit more fun than the old version so I'm looking forward to this - I think it's a good change. It's just annoying.

This is why I always say that removing or adding something early on can have unexpected impacts later on.

Anyway, other things I did:

Re-visiting my plans for Yuu's route and brainstorming a new plot for him. I have decided I'm probably going to change up the plot for Yuu's route for several reasons - there isn't just one reason.

Anyway, I haven't fully settled on things but I have started organising my thoughts on it. The good news is that even if I change his plot, it won't have an impact on anything I've written so far since the part of the plot I'm changing doesn't get started until around Ch 4.

Sorry this wrap-up is a bit short. I'm still not feeling great at the moment - I haven't quite recovered from earlier in the week so I've had a pretty persistent headache the last few days but I did want to get the devlog out to you all on time.
