Lance CG - Sneak Peak (story spoilers within)

Hey everyone! I decided to post a walk through of the creation of the most recent Lance CG. The *final* image (at the bottom of this post) *definitely* has visual spoilers for Lance's back story. Some of you are already aware of this spoiler and his relationship with another character.

But if you don't know what the above means and you do not like spoilers, I strongly advise you to *not* scroll to the bottom to the fully rendered image.

Anyway, a lot of my sprites and CGs are originally composed using a 3D modelling program to help me set the pose an get the general idea of what I want to do.

These models are not 100% anatomically correct nor do they have perfect articulation. So they give me a base to work from but I have to make a lot of changes to fix the issues.

I also used this reference to help me get an idea of actual back muscles (you can see the 3D model is pretty....featureless.) This was mostly used during the shading process. The pose doesn't match up but it was good enough for a reference.

Anyway this was my initial sketch...

This is how the sketch overlays the original model. You can see it doesn't overlay the model that closely in a lot of places. The models are a good basis for a sketch but, as I said, the models are not perfect so I can't just trace over them and leave it at that. I usually have to alter the pose a bit...

So in this version I've got most of his shading done. You get a good look at his cybernetics and some of his scars. And his tattoo...

And this is the fully rendered version with some lighting effects and the background not darkened out.

This CG happens...hm....fairly early in the route I guess. It's probably the 3rd one the player will unlock.
