I like this theory. Look forward to seeing how things unfold for RWBY9. From what I've heard, RWBY9 has been a planned diversion for a long long time.

I dunno....Salem's currently holding 2 of the 4 relics and is halfway to her goal. What does she care about the piddling details....she probably knows that Cinder's lying but appreciates the hustle. She learned from Salem to manipulate Watts & Neo and play them like fiddles. "Never underestimate the usefulness of others"....3 volumes later Cinder takes that little Salem lesson to heart.

My theory is that the tree we see is to represent Yggdrasil, the World Tree. This is the Remnant version of Niflheim, the world of the dead. The reason Neo & Jaune fell along with Team RWBY is because they both have people to see (Torchwick & Pyrrha). Neo & Jaune will both get closure and Neo will ultimately turn good. Multiple people could be there to interact with throughout the volume (Hazel & Gretchen, Penny, Jacques, ADAM *cringe*, Watts, Ironwood, Vine, Clover, Sienna Khan, and possibly Summer Rose) and eventually I think Raven’s connection to Yang will provide them with the doorway back to the real world. How that happens I’ve no idea but it’s possible Winter could track her down. Again, all a theory, probably wrong, but they could fill a volume with it.

I love where all of this is going. SO MUCH! If that's really Yggdrassil, that leaves Team RWBY and Jaune on an island with Neo, who we now know can camo herself to get the advantage on people too.
Somebody is going to die, and I don't know exactly who, but I'm here for it.
Plus, there HAS to be someone else on that island. And when Salem finds out the truth about what Cinder did...that's a wrap for her. She will probably leash her so hard that she can't do anything without Salem saying so first.
