The juxtaposition of Penny and Winter this season is a subplot I didn't know I needed. People give Miles and Kerry a lot of shit for their writing (some of it deserved, but I believe most of it is not). And perhaps this subplot was a function of them adding two new writers to the staff (doubling it). Either way, we the fans win because I thought the writing this season was some of the best in years.
