Elitch Gardens (Second Gate)

Despite warnings, the Gairdners cap off their triumphant Denver trip with a stop at a place called Elitch Gardens.

Spoiler Alert: Elitch Gardens sucks and they didn't love it.

That Bass Pro Shop is where my kids meet Santa every year.

As someone who works for the third-party banker inside of a poker room in Summerfield, Florida (about an hour away from Disney) in talking to a lot of dealers who have dealt at the Seminole hard rock. I can tell you that Disney is the reason that there is absolutely no poker rooms or casinos in Orlando.

The early shoutout to Golden, CO was fun. That's where I grew up, and I can confirm that it's delightful. It has an adorable (authentic) main street, and the Coors Brewery Tour is totally worth the time. There are also some fun "old west" type experiences, if that's your jam.

Scott's son is going to become the theme park Punisher

A fact that ties to my home park of Knoebels to Elitch Gardens. In 1999, Knoebels built the wooden coaster Twister. Its layout is VERY inspired by Mister Twister, which was at Elitch's original location. Knoebels got Elitch to send them a bolt from Mister Twister. Knoebels painted it gold and used it in the construction of Twister. They have a sign pointing it out near Twister's entrance. Twister also has a transfer track lever from Mister Twister displayed in its queue.

I grew up at Elitchs in the 90-00's and thought the world of it as an amusement park. Then six flags sold it and all the "themeing" shifted to knock offs. Then I think I realized it kinda sucked but it's all we had besides the death trap feeling of Lakeside that I was too young to appreciate. Now I might be too old for Lakeside as it might break my neck or back, atleast that's how it was last time I was there which was 15-20 years ago (holy shit that's a long time).

That should also be the tagline for Six Flag’s “Superman Ride of Steel”.

We have a torchys here in St. Petersburg and were big fans.

This episode reminds me that I've always been fortunate with my theme park experiences. The bemoaned Great America was/is my home park being in San Jose... But I had/have in-state access to Disneyland and I had grandparents an hour South of WDW - so both were frequent trips. That being said, most regional theme parks are like Elitch Gardens... Or worse! So unless you're traveling to LA or Orlando this may be your usual. Sad that Scott was within walking distance of Convenience Station and didn't go... A true miss.

I've been to WaterWorld the same summers I went to Elitch's and WaterWorld was vastly superior, even though I could never find the entrance to the Nile ride.

If you do make another Patreon tier, may I suggest we call it "Club T." I'll happily pay for regular tests for the boys.

Jake Alleruzzo

If I ever find out that the good boys visit Denver and go to the Denver Zoo, located ONE city block from my home, without doing a live show or meet up, I will die!!!! No family vacations!!! Include the fans in all your trips!!!

Taylorious

I am making my extremely rare comments appearance specifically affirm the T Tier

Dean H Pritchett

I can’t wait to visit this shit hole!

Steven Morel

I just did a family vacation to Denver, Water World was such a highlight. I can't find the right way to describe Journey To The Center Of the Earth. Unreal dark ride in a tube!!

RvckMetal5Chic

I second Water World. I have mentioned it in comments before when asked what should be covered. Most people don't believe it is real when I tell them about the themed dark rides!

Josh Ehlers

“You’ll believe a man can cry” re: Jordan Peterson’s appearance at the forum is a late-episode home run bit from Jason, I had to applaud

I visited Denver in 2016 and we could see this place from our hotel. We thought it was abandoned at first but it seemed like it was open for just a few hours every few days.

Tricia Holste

The saccharine, friendship fostering sounds of Sweet Caroline juxtaposed with this.. dystopian hellscape on Scott's stories is like.. the 60s slow songs in fallout

Kate Shoop

Just got home from Disneyland. Shooting gallery is still open.

Elitch's is just... it's a shit hole, it's so awful. I've lived in the Denver area since 1998 and didn't go until 2018, I think. I had been to Disney World earlier that year and figured it would lightly scratch that them park itch. They constantly offer season passes for the price of like 1-1/2 day passes and I was working one train stop away from it so I thought it was worth it. And I got the meal plan they offered because I figured I could stop by for lunch once in a while and with my season pass I went a whopping total of...1 time. I spent about an hour there and left. Most of the rides weren't open. I got a personal pan pizza that was barely cooked. The only pictures I took were of spelling and grammar errors on their signs. I think the water park is probably the main reason most kids go. Or they've never been to an actual amusement park so don't know any better. It's such a depressing, dirty, rundown nothing. It's like a demusement park, it steals any happiness you bring with you and you leave a husk.

Elitch’s is an utter shitheap but honestly lakeside is probably in worse condition. Less of a six flags/valencia (golden?) teen zone and more of a derelict Scooby Doo zone. Looks and feels like a park out of the 1910s which is cool walking around or doing a mirror maze but decidedly less so on rides that feel held together with duct tape and have killed people in the past. I’ve beat this drum a lot but WaterWorld is the park to scope in Denver…water park with robots and dark rides!

As a fellow chronically ill person I’m waiting for more bits about Quest Diagnostics, a place I visit often & have come to suspect has a 100% turn over rate weekly

Champagne and Gummy bears

I like how the restaurant was main feed and the amusement park is second gate

Fiona

I went to Elitch’s a couple times when I was young during the Six Flags era, and my strongest memories are trying to parse that sign. (And being forced onto thrill rides I didn’t want to do by my so-called “friends”.)

David Ganssle

Great to hear Scott's son's origin story.

Zwoozy

That Elitch Gardens sign is really something else. You guys almost didn’t do it justice

Daniel Salas

God I can’t wait to listen. This place is a dump

Jason S

Shooting gallery is still open at Disneyland (at least as of a month ago.) The key is to look down the sights properly and pick a gun from the center.

SeeAllenKelly

excited for the announcement of the Club T tier!

chris

when scott just jumped into talking about mike's high t, i can't be the only one who pictured mike sitting at a small table with a frilly tablecloth, picking small scones and finger sandwiches off of a deicate 3-tiered porcelain tower while sipping earl grey tea. i do think it's interesting that the number range used as normal is almost the same as for credit scores.
