Early Release - What is Zionism? Pt. 2: The Creation of Israel
Added 2025-10-18 18:37:36 +0000 UTCHey everyone, I'm back from the abyss and happy to report I have a new video to release. It's the follow-up to my last video on Zionism, and covers from where it left off (in 1896) until the creation of Israel in 1948.
I'm calling this a rough cut. I need to spend another couple days on it for finishing touches, which is mostly color grading and adding some movement to some visual assets. I thought I'd release this in the meantime. It's basically the finished piece.
If you have any feedback or criticism, I'd love to hear it, as I still have time to patch up mistakes if we find any, or make small changes.
One of my biggest questions, if anyone wants to respond: how comprehensible is this compared to other pieces? In terms of moving parts, it's far more complicated than anything I've done. If there are any sections or any aspects that you think are confusing, let me know.
As usual, thanks for the support. It really makes my work possible and lets me have professional integrity. It lets me take the time I need to make these videos up to the standards I want them to be at, and lets me release them without having to do paid ad reads, which I think we can all agree would be horrible for everyone involved. I cannot thank you all enough for it.

Thank you. 2 small comments from me.. 1) Your talk can start when the first slide appears (so that audience can read introduction on you). 2) I felt there are too many slides flipping in some parts (so that I needed to watch twice to catch up with narrative), while the number of slides came comfortable toward the end (so that I could instantly follow your talk). Looking forward to your final version.

A few comments/ critiques: Firstly (I’m unsure if this was noted in the first video): but Ashkénaze Jews have mixed European heritage, as well as middle eastern. This could perhaps add a bit of nuance and depth to the first section. Secondly, the part about Weizmann and Herzel is somewhat confusing, where you say that Weizmann was then leading opposition the heavily influenced by Herzel’s views (perhaps I simply misunderstood). Thirdly, in a later section, you speak about Damascus, saying it was part of Palestine, I believe that though there was sympathy and cohesion between Arabs in Syria and those in Palestine, Damascus was never part of the Palestinian state/occupation zone. //A smaller suggestion, it might be useful to add text of Names of important figures below in order for the audience to commit the name and face to memory together. An example of this perhaps: when showing the picture of Hussein Bin Ali (Sultan of Hejaz). I believe he was promised the Arabian Peninsula initially after the Ottoman defeat, though was pushed aside by the British in favor of different occupation zones. I hope these critiques can perhaps improve this already stellar content. Well done Ryan!

2025-10-18 23:46:45 +0000 UTCIt is a great piece and, while I knew quite a bit about the history of Israel/Palestine I learnt quite a lot about internal dynamics of the Zionist movement. I just felt one or two times that the editing was going a bit fast over the written content, but overall it was not disrupting the flow (I just paused a bit 😅). Congrats for the great piece again and looking forward to the next part. Special like for the Churchill tree planting bad Omen anecdote.

Minor (very minor) thing to perhaps correct is the two documents at 40:54 don't appear to disappear as intended, and do so one after the other rather than at the same time. But that's all I noticed, and it may have been intentional. I'm looking forward to part 3!

I would definitely say this was the most intrigued i’ve been in any of your videos so far (High praise considering i’m a patron.), the ending was excellent. I would say if I had any notes, I would like to know more of what the conscious was within the Palestinians, but given that this is a video on Zionism, and the fact you also did do some mentioning of the general feeling, and actions they took. I would consider that note to be minuscule. I think an important part you touched on was the factions within Zionism and how the idea evolved, it deepened an understanding of what I considered a one-note ideology. Relating to the Arab-Palestinian people from the time of 1920-1945 what books would you recommend to get a deeper idea of what the people where like at the time?

And be waiting with bated breath for the next installment. I did think to myself that with the modern ability to view the wider context with such ease, all this information at our fingertips - would this ability have helped them avoid the mess. Just have to look at the mediascape today and realise no, it really wouldn't!
