I don't think Ross has really changed as much as you think. I think your perception of stuff like the age gap stuff is warping your perception of him imo anyway

To me it kinda makes sense tho carol really messed him up ever since then heโs relationships have all been so unhealthy he has major trust issues. I think he needs to go to therapy to unpack all that. Ross really does seem to be easily influenced. With Juli he was going to buy a cat. With Emily he was kinda acting unlike himself as well he went away with her when they had just met, pierced his ears, played rugby, did a whole bunch of stuff he never would have done. In my opinion his character really does reflect who heโs dating.

2025-12-25 17:55:09 +0000 UTCThe clip shows are always bittersweet for me. I like reminiscing with the best scenes from seasons past. Itโs always fun to quote the best lines now and again. But I dislike how it feels like half of a story, like itโs a small problem that gets resolved super quickly so that they can pick in more clips. And I know thatโs how sitcoms work, itโs always problems that tend to get resolved in the 22 minutes. But when itโs only an A plot with no B or C plots to buffer it, it just feels like the problem is so easily fixed. At any rate, Chandler forgetting to give the message is nice because one of the Easter eggs they use is leaving messages on that white board in some of the earlier episodes. But here the whiteboard is actually a part of the plot.

2025-12-25 16:29:43 +0000 UTCI never liked the Ross/Emily thing, but I'm enjoying it this time around because of how it gets you mad at something Ross does. I know that's not fair but when you start off a sentence "I'm really trying, but Ross..." I know I'm in for an epic rant. I agree though that the writers kind of devolved Ross for this. I mean, in my head, I explain it away that Ross has a jealous personality and that even though he's been with women, this is new because it's kind of casual and she's 20, so it subverts all the things he is used to when dating. It's a thin excuse, but it's the only way I get through it without wanting to smack him. And Merry Christmas!
