This is the era of "Supersizing" episodes, so they were extra long on NBC. In syndication, they were broken up in two episodes, but on DVD Region 1 they're single episodes. I don't know how different streaming services have them divided up, nor do I know how they were presented originally in different territories.

2025-12-12 05:20:31 +0000 UTCFor some reason these are some of the most hated episodes or episode people usually skip, these and the recap episodes, at least that’s what I see all the time and that makes me sad. I actually really love these episodes. They are so fun! It’s really cool seeing them in a different aspect and how things mostly still turn out they way they were ment to be like Chandler and Monica being together it just solidifys there relationship and shows that there’re soulmates. It’s so cute 🥰 they´re my favorite couple of all time along with a couple from from the show Austin and Ally. Highly recommend that show it’s so good hope you can react to that one day I really love how they changed the intro for this universe. I absolutely love Phoebe and Carols hair. I actually also really like this Phoebe and Joey in this alternate universe. Phoebes hilarious in these episodes and I love that Joey is successful. Did you notice that Carol and Susan’s hairstyle were switched with each other’s?

In fact I find it more fascinating because you get an insight into how that decade thought. You can interpret so much in terms of ideas and ways of thinking at the time. I give leeway to shows pre-2009 or so, and even more so pre-2000. Because essentially they weren't critically thinking about stuff like that and didn't know any better. Essentially I always question myself with any old TV show with "If this was made now instead of when it was originally made, would this stuff still be in the show?" and with Friends, I honestly don't think the fat stuff would be, because the producer and writer's modern content doesn't.

These are fun but I think I forget about the alternative universe episodes because they're so disconnected. I do agree though about how cute it was that they had Monica and Chandler get together in that universe too. Like you said, its great to see because their relationship is a rare one for TV where they don't have drama with each other and they showcase this healthy kind of couple that accept each other and all their little idiosyncrasies and never try to change or fix each other. So I think it's okay to be emotionally manipulated by that and invested in them even if they're fictional.

The show was kind of fatphobic. so monica being a virgin because she's fat is a thing the show would legitimately do. most of the jokes related to it are "monica is fat isn't that funny" but as you said she's not actually that big. also i'm pretty sure rachael saying kissing doesn't count is just her being a bit hypocritical. i honestly almost forgot about these 2 episodes.
