Poll - Downloading Content Problem Solving
Added 2021-09-12 15:47:57 +0000 UTCHey folks! So lately there have been more and more reports of issues with downloading links via the Patreon app with the way we are using linked content in our posts. We switched over to this method a few months ago in order to minimize the posts down into one single post per release instead of multiple posts tied to each individual tier with attached files. There are a lot of other content creators that use this method and they're telling me that they're getting the same issues reported, too.
This glitch in the app hasn't affected everyone, but it's becoming more and more commonplace so I felt the need to address it here. Here is the situation as I've been able to figure it out:
Email: Clicking the download link from your email will not work unless you're already signed into Patreon.
Web/Mobile Browser: Downloading content works 100% perfectly this way.
Android App/Browser: The app will sometimes give you a 403 error BUT if you log into your Patreon account on your mobile browser, it will then download fine through both the app and the browser.
iOS App/Browser: This is the area where we are having the most reported problems. The app doesn't always work with the content links. From my understanding, downloading directly via mobile browser still works, however.
So all that being said, we link to the content that's stored in a master archive post in order to keep the number of posts down and make finding the content easier. But if this App glitch is a problem that is causing folks too many headaches, I'm willing to try something else. Pick an option below or leave a comment to let me know your thoughts.
I'll leave this open till the end of the week.
Thanks, everyone and I hope you're all having a great weekend!

I've been helping those people as they have been commenting but felt this poll could help in a few ways: 1) Letting everyone know that I do know of the problem and that it is a glitch on Patreon's side 2) providing solutions to the problem for those who didn't know there were options 3) seeing how widespread the issue is and how many folks it's bothering to better gauge if a change was needed Changing the method of posting is a vast undertaking and is not an easy task, but I try to listen to everyone. I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention because I had specifically been told by one patron that they were quitting because of the glitch (not knowing it was a glitch or that there were solutions). I try to be as available as possible, both on here through comments and direct messages or through the discord (where I'm on pretty much all day).

I don't think doing a poll is a good solution, that's a "tyranny of the majority" situation that will likely lose you the patreons that are having the problems unless you're also addressing their concerns.
