Rune Demon | New Guest #MonsterMondays

Rune Demon

Rune demons are not like the typical fiends which stray from the Abyss. These manmade constructs are possessed by a fiendish spirit or entity, which stirs it to live. The many enchantments and spells which are engraved into the stone skin of such a demon grant it its powerful magical abilities, such as the casting of certain spells, or other magical effects.

Construct Nature. While the soul which gives life to the rune demon is that of a fiend originating from the Abyss, the creature is, in all its essence and glory, a manmade construct. It does not require food, air, water, or sleep to sustain itself, and it is not affected by spells such as dispel evil and good. While its name might suggest otherwise, its creature type is construct.

Runic Body. The demon's entire body is composed of many different rocks and materials with specific runes and enchantments etched into them. These magical etchings allow the demon to possess certain magical abilities, such as enhancing its combative prowess, or other similar effects. There can be many varying alterations of rune demons depending on who made them, though most often than not they possess the same collective of runic abilities - though they do not possess the power to choose which runic enchantment to activate.

Specified Warden. Rune demons are often employed as guardians of a predetermined location, such as a mausoleum or treasury. During such a task, a rune demon lays dormant for many years on end, until awakened by outside threats, such as intruders or environmental disasters. In case of the former, the demon takes on a hostile stance, and will attempt to thwart the intruders. In the case of environmental threats, the demon will attempt to bring whatever it is guarding to safety, so that it can be protected for many years to come.
