Issue #38: Rivals Unraveled – March/April 2019

Have you ever just stopped to consider the similarities of Yoshi and Kirby?

These are two of Nintendo's biggest stars. Two of the eight original Smash Bros. fighters. Both headliners of their own separate, ongoing franchises that have been regularly getting new games since the '90s. Both of them have eating enemies as their main gameplay gimmick in the core installments of their series, but then both also regularly entertain their audiences with spin-off titles that set their insatiable natures aside in favor of goofy, one-off design ideas. And both have been given gorgeous, yarn-themed platformers designed by the fine folks over at Good-Feel!

It's that last point that really rose to the forefront of my mind as we began planning for this issue, especially after Nintendo confirmed that the month of March would see the release of Yoshi's Crafted World (by Good-Feel), but that it would be preceded three weeks earlier in the same month by Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn (also by Good-Feel). It's like the opening act for Crafted World is its own grandpa! (With Yoshi's Woolly World being the generation in between the two in this scenario.)

Nintendo clearly thinks of both Kirby and Yoshi in the same way, using them for the same purposes in the same styles of games – and that made me imagine that the two of them, in a sense, are rivals with one another. Not direct rivals in an in-game way like Ryu and Ken or Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and not even in a marketing sense like Mario and Sonic. But both the Pink Puffball and the Green Gobbler are constantly elbowing each other for position behind the scenes in the offices of the Big N, I have no doubt.

So get ready for Rivals Unraveled! We're springboarding off that Yoshi/Kirby duality that's being placed front and center this March and using it as an opportunity to examine other ongoing rivalries in gaming too. You'll see such battles between brands brought up here and there throughout the pages in this issue, and maybe you'll find yourself siding with one over the other each time!

Digital subscribers, the PDF edition of this issue should be showing up in your email inboxes within the next 24 hours or so. Keep an eye out for it!

Print subscribers, the physical copies are in production now and should arrive in most mailboxes by early-to-mid March. Since February's only got 28 days in it, it might seem like the print copies are taking a little longer than usual. But no, that's the fault of whoever it was that decided this should be the shortest month of the year.

We'll have another big issue following quickly after this one – and really, the entire rest of 2019 looks incredible thanks to the huge lineup of major names that Nintendo has scheduled between now and next New Year's. So keep your NF Patreon pledge locked down, keep your mailing address info updated and all that jazz. We'll keep doing our part of cranking out great new issues for you!

Hi, so I've been waiting patiently for my physical copy to arrive in the mail, but I haven't received it. Can I please get some help and maybe get my magazine sent asap? I don't mean to be rude, but if I'm paying for the product, I'm a bit upset I have yet to get it.

I haven’t received my physical as well (sorry for waiting so long haha)

Haven't received mine either.

I haven't received my digital copy yet it is normal?

I haven't received mine yet either....

Hey I also haven’t gotten mine yet

Tom Ehrenzeller

Mine hasn't arrived either ChocoMitz. I'm still waiting on my issue in the mail.

Hi, I still haven’t received my physical copy.

If you are wondering, I became a patron on March 10th. Is that a bit late to receive the current issue #38? Will I get the next issue, #39?

ChocoMitz

Still waiting for mine. I joined to get both the digital version and physical copy (chose $5.99 tier), but haven't arrive yet.

ChocoMitz

I just became a patron, am I too late to read this one??

I still haven't received the physical copy. Should I just keep waiting or has something gone wrong? Edit: nvm, just arrived! Great timing, it arrived one day after I asked this question!

PatTheHyruler

Are you outside of the US?

Me neither, maybe some glitch?

I'm don't see the digital copy in my inbox.

DreamDragon

can anybody tell me how to find the players poll for this month

I just pledged yesterday, wondering if I will get this issue?

Haven't gotten this latest issue yet. Should I sit tight and wait a bit longer? Or should I order another copy? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have not recieved my issue yet. Do you know when I should get it?

Who do we get in touch with if we didn’t receive a poster? Is this a common occurrence for the current issue? #38

I ordered a bunch of old magazines from the NF Store. I live in Australia, so when will it arrive?

I’m excited about receiving my first issue of NF. I use to get NP 30 some years ago. When I was a kid I would take it to school and I’d have so many kids wanting to look at it, I felt super cool!! Even my teacher would ask if he could look at it during his break!! I’m excited to take it to school again. All the kids are going to love it and think I’m cool again. I’m am now a 5th grade teacher!!!!

Most print subscribers should get their copies by mid-March.

When should I expect this issue to arrive?

just arrived in my inbox :) Have started reading it! Great job guys!

Aristeidis Fragkiadakis

Heckum's yeah!!!!

You probably just barely missed it, Daniel. But you can place an order for a single copy over at NFMagazine.com!

The Nintendo Force

The cut-off date for that issue was a few days before Christmas. You can still pick up a copy over at NFMagazine.com, though!

The Nintendo Force

I Subbed in Early January, Will I Still Receive the January/February Issue?

This is my 1st issue, really looking forward to it.

Cant wait to have it in my inbox :)

Aristeidis Fragkiadakis

I just became a patreon as of Tuesday Feb 19 at 12:35 am. Am I past the cutoff to be sent the March/April issue? (I have the $4.99 US physical print subscription)

Patreon only runs charges on the first of the month, so the charge for this issue won't happen until March 1. And since we only publish issues every other month, the next charge after that for us will be on May 1. And then July 1 after that, and so on.

The Nintendo Force

When should I expect to be charged for the new issue? I'm brand new to Patreon and just subscribed to Nintendo Force for the first time two days ago, so I'm not really sure when to expect a charge to show up on my account. Since the digital issues are being emailed within the next 24 hours, will I be charged sometime within the next 24 hours?

If you updated your address before I posted this post, you're all good!

The Nintendo Force

I moved recently and just updated my address today. Will this issue be sent to the new address?
