SNES Classic Winner + Patreon Stuff

Hey there, Force fans! First up, sorry for taking so long to make this post. I'd intended to choose and announce the winner of our SNES Classic Giveaway in November, and then November ended up being a real whirlwind of un-fun things going on with my family, and it skipped my mind for a while. My apologies.

So now, officially, the winner of the SNES Classic that's been sitting here by my desk is . . .

Nick Beierle!

Congratulations Nick, as the random number generator has graciously chosen you. I'll contact you with further information about delivering your prize.

Next up! Since I've got you guys here, I wanted to address any concerns you may have about Patreon's new fee announcement. Trust me when I say that I'm not pleased about it, and I've already reached out to multiple staff members in the Patreon office to express that displeasure. Since there's such a huge consensus of creators who are against this change, I'm hopeful the collective pressure will cause them to realize their mistake and reverse course on this decision.

But if they don't, and the new fee stands, here's some things to know:

1. The new fee will not be charged on your next NF issue payment. The change is scheduled to take effect on December 18, but we're publishing our next issue on December 17, so it'll be totally business as usual.

2. If Patreon does not cancel this new fee by the time we're ready to publish the following issue in February, we'll add more content to our issues and more incentives to continue your support for the Force. More posters more frequently. More giveaways more regularly, with more winners. Extra digital back issues sent alongside new editions when they're published โ€“ we were planning that already as a stretch goal, but we'll just go ahead and do it as a thank-you for everyone's continued support here.

And let me tell you, you guys don't want to go anywhere. We are fully entering in to the greatest generation Nintendo has had in a long, long time, and stepping into 2018 with the Switch moving at full steam is going to be incredible. My mind is already swirling with awesome ideas for issues we'll get to put together in the near future, covering Mega Man 11, Metroid Prime 4, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch . . . 2017 has been insane, but it's only the beginning!

And please continue to share your ideas and feedback with us. What should be our next giveaway? What kind of content are you personally hoping to see in one of our upcoming issues? Our 5-Year Anniversary is coming up in just a few more weeks, and we're thrilled to mark that milestone with all of you!

Extraordinario

Hi! I'm a new subscriber, I just want 2 ask something: as far as I know, I subscribed 2 receive both the paper & digital editions. My 1st paper magazine just showed up in the mail, haven't opened its plastic yet, but it looks great! I'm just wondering, how do I receive its digital version that comes with it? Is there something in particular I'm supposed 2 do? Thanks 4 your help! :) -Craig

whens the January/February issue coming?

Justin7885

Ditto the last two comments. Just subbed, do we get the November/December issue?

I have the same question as Jordan above me. Also will I be getting the November/December issue or do I have to wait until January/February issue??? REALLY want that Xenoblade Poster haha.

So I just became a patron to get the print subscription. Any idea how long before I start to get the magazine?

j/k Congrats to Nick, thank you NF for the contest... And I'm so happy to see Patreon cancelled the extra fee :)

Are you sure Nick won? I thought I heard my name instead?

Good news, everyone! Patreon just announced this morning that they're canceling the new service fee! So subscription prices remain as they always have been. :)

The Nintendo Force

We had a Strategy section for a while, but it kind of fell away since it was hard to have content for it in every single issue. We'll look into bringing it back into the rotation. :)

The Nintendo Force

Hi Lucas - Love Nintendo Force, and I'm happy to pay the little additional fee to keep great content coming. It's worth it in my opinion! The one thing I'd love to see come in the magazine would be a Playthrough / Walkthrough section, or Tips & Tricks section for new games. I really miss this from the days of Nintendo Power when you had cool little walkthrough guides. Including maps, item descriptions and/or monster descriptions. I know I can look all those things up on the internet, but what fun is that? Also my daughter reads Nintendo Force as her source of gaming news (she's too young to be using the internet for that), and she would love to see walkthroughs & tips. What do you think?!

Thanks for addressing Patreon's additional fees and for pressuring Patreon to renege on said fees. I foresee this as a harbinger of more insidious Patreon fees in the future, so the content creators need to unite and nip this in the bud. That aside, here are some suggestions for stretch goals and giveaways: more pages per issue, a music CD, a shirt or hat, a $20 eShop card to cover Nintendo's imminent online subscription fee, more collaborations with YouTube personalities both in NF Magazine and on NF's YouTube channel (OBE1plays please), and maybe some scheduled online play time with subscribers or a way for subscribers to arrange online play amongst themselves?

$0.49 per issue, or an increase of $2.94 over the course of a whole year. Not terrible โ€“ the policy change actually affects us the least out of all "big" Patreon creators since we only charge six times over an entire year. But we don't want to ignore it, either. We'll definitely earn that extra $2.94 per year with extra awesomeness! Putting more pages into issues is definitely in consideration, and we'll be doing a test of that with a 100-page issue very soon.

The Nintendo Force

Glad you addressed the fees and all that. With all the $1.00 tiers out there the changes could really hurt people. Hopefully it can be resolved. Here to stay for this great magazine.

zeppelin03

The change doesnt impact me too much but it does suck for those who throw around a dollar to a lot of different Patreons. Out of all the ones I pledge to you're the only one acknowledging the increase like this and offering more content which is awesome to hear, will for sure stay subscribed :)

ShakeNBakey

Thanks for addressing this Patreon fee change, Lucas. I guess it would amount to about US $0.50 more per issue, which isn't much, but considering how well the magazine has been doing lately, passing all the pledge goals and such, it would be nice if the magazine simply got larger. More content, I mean. It's become very well made, and will remain a mainstay in our house. But I wouldn't complain about more pages!

That would add a whole lot of extra shipping material and postage expense. Trying to keep these subscriptions as affordable as possible for you guys. :)

The Nintendo Force

On the subject of posters, would it be possible for them to be shipped out in a tube? Some of them have been really cool but then slightly ruined because of the crease from folding

5 years already?? That's crazy! Congrats guys and gals! Proud to be an original backer for y'all. ... That Patreon fee is crazy, but I'll put up with it if it means I get to keep backing the people I back. ... I second Switch giveaways! I already have one, but I have a few friends that don't have one yet. Perhaps some Switch accessories too? Portable charger are always welcome. And with amiibo coming back into usefulness, amiibo giveaways won't really get old.

With all the great things coming out this/next year for it, I feel that the next giveaway should be a switch.
