The Silence of September + The Player's Poll

Hey there, Nintendo Force fans!

Well, it's been a mostly silent September, hasn't it? Both here on the NF Patreon page and from Nintendo, too. Many expected that the Big N would have held the big reveal for the new NX by now, but with only a single day left in this calendar month, it's looking like predictions of a September unveiling aren't going to come true.

It's had us treading water – locked in a holding pattern for a little while, as you know we'll be cranking out big blowouts on the NX once the company decides it's finally time to pull back that curtain. Luckily, our next issue, #24, is primarily focused on the new Pokémon Sun and Moon – and for as quiet as Nintendo's been about NX, The Pokémon Company has been shouting about their new pair of monster-catching sequels from the mountaintops for months on end now!

We've been working tirelessly on assembling the best Pokémon-focused issue of any magazine in the history of time, and it's coming along wonderfully. Inside you'll find the biggest preview feature we've ever done, shining all kinds of spotlights on all the ways the Pokémon series is breaking from tradition with these two new installments. We're supporting that Sun and Moon coverage with other Poké-appropriate content too, like a spread on the super-successful Pokémon Uranium fan game and an exclusive interview with Joe "Serebii" Merrick, the webmaster of Serebii.net (which has been online for 17 years now!).

We'll share more about our next issue soon, as we're planning to kick off an all-new giveaway in just a few more days – lining up with the next release of new Sun and Moon information on October 4th. So please look forward to that!

In the meanwhile, though, I want to remind you all about our regular giveaway, The Player's Poll! Our most recent winner was announced on Page 7 of Issue #23, and he's scored a free copy of Paper Mario: Color Splash. It's . . .

Ryan Prorok!

Congratulations once again, Ryan! Your copy of Color Splash will show up at your door on the game's release date, so keep an eye out for it.

If you want to be a Player's Poll winner just like Ryan, check out the new set of questions here:

====================

1. Alola Forms have been revealed! Which older Pokémon do you think should get new forms with new types and designs in Pokémon Sun and Moon?

2. How about all-new Pokémon? Which animals, fairy tale creatures or even inanimate objects do you think should inspire a brand-new Pokémon creature?

3. Finally, which new 'mon or Alola Form that has already been revealed for Sun and Moon is your favorite so far? Tell us why that is!

====================

You can send in your answers via email to PlayersPoll@NFMagazine.com with the subject line "Player's Poll for Issue #23" – or, even more conveniently, you can also type your answers into the comments box attached to this very Patreon post. Either way works, and you might just see your responses show up in the Inbox section in our next issue!

Thanks for your support as always, NF faithful, and sorry once again that September has been so silent overall. Here's hoping we're just in the calm before the storm, and that Nintendo's official reveal of the NX will sweep us all up into a frenzy very, very soon.

3. Probably Cutiefly's evolution, I forgot the name

2. I think it's high time we got a snowman Pokémon, isn't it?

1. Simply, a dragon-styled Eeveelution would be a pretty sick design choice, in my personal opinion. Granted, it's not happening, thanks to the Pokédex's new feature on registering evolutions, but that doesn't rule out imagination! I imagine it with the color scheme similar to that of Umbreon's and Mega Charizard X's, but a design similar to Flareon's. Even just the _thought_ of this new Pokémon Eeveelution could bring the kids to brainstorm, saying stuff like, "The *dragon Eevee* has big horns on its forehead, and *breathes fire!*" Ah yes..., wouldn't that make the kids happy? 2. How about a Pokémon that would be created from the skies! One Pokémon manifested from the clouds themselves, and take the shape of a bird! The classification would fall under Flying, as there's no specific type of creatures living in the air _without wings_ (granted, that would be a very insightful discovery). The Pokémon's ability would be, while not creative, called, "Water Cycle," where, depending on the weather elements (sunshine. rain, or hail), it can change type or get status increases! Under *sunshine,* the Pokémon would evaporate (still the same type, but increased evasiveness and special stats); *rain* would change the type to _Water_; and *hail* makes it an _Ice_ type, without question. The creature's name would be, _"Kumoswift,"_ _Kumo-_ referring to _"Cloud"_ in Japanese, and _Swift_ referring to an onomatopoeia often used for wind. 3. Without a doubt in my mind, Alola's Meowth is a design that definitely stands out to me! It reminds me of the _"I deserve everything because I am a fashion model with exceedingly-high standards"_ kind of perspective. One question that's brought up, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to, is, "What'll happen when Team Rocket's Meowth encounters the Alola Meowth?" As some classic Pokémon fans know, the reason Meowth knows how to even speak, for starters, is because the love of his life, yet another self-centered Meowth, discovered a street-Meowth such as himself unworthy for her standards. Now, take that to a new island, give Meowth a new design, add a new description, and you got yourselves a practically unpredictable recipe with no guided direction! Note: * are bold, _ are italics! They don't have to be in the magazine's inbox for convenience sake. I also sent an email version without the "asterisks" or "underscores!"

1) The Mareep line would be pretty cool! Making them an Electric/Fire type because of the tropical climate would be great since that combination hasn't been used outside of Rotom's Heat Form. 2) I'm not sure what type it would be but I've always wanted a pokemon based on the Guinee pig. No particular reason for this, other then I think Guinee pigs are cute. It's signature attack could be based on the wheeting sound they are known for making. 3) Litten because it reminds me of my Cat! I totally knew it was going to be my first starter the second I saw it

1. Pichu and Pikachu. While TPC most likely won't mess with their adorable yellow mascot, I think they should definitely get Alola forms, as it seems strange that only Raichu is getting one. 2. A flip-phone ghost Pokemon. Now, I'm not a huge fan of inanimate objects becoming Pokemon, but the lore would essentially be that this Pokemon became a thing recently due to a large number of old telephones being discarded in favor of new ones (smartphones). 3. Passimian. He's a rugby lemur. In rugby, you move. He's a Pokemon that like's to move-it-move-it.

JVG

I think we need an Alolan Form for the Sewaddle line. Just imagine Sewaddle, Swadloon, and Levanny, but instead of having green leaves, the leaves have more of an autumn color, and the leaves are chewed up and smaller. The typing? Maybe it could be Bug/Fairy? But that wouldn't make sense, since it still has leaves. Well Alolan Exeggutor is a Grass/Dragon type, so I guess they could be part Fairy.

1. Swampert, add some depth to it. 2. A griffon Pokemon, it could be a flying/fighting type. And it's backstory: it is a mythical Pokemon who has guarded treasure in one of the Alolan mountains for eons, and was disturbed by you in your journey. 3. Pikipek, he really continues the role of pidgey and the other flying Pokemon (I just like flying types)

Too many pancakes?? Where did you hear about that?

Derek Freeman

My favourite Alolan form so far is Raichu! It looks stupidly cuddly and I can't believe it got to that point from literally eating too many pancakes. Sounds like a pretty Canadian thing despite being situated in Poke-Hawaii. Where's the maple syrup?

2. perhaps a pokemon based on a quetzalcoatl, or a winged snake? or something based on cthulu or lovecraftian? it'd be interesting, to say the least. and 3. Type: Null is so bizarre but cool, and Alolan Ninetails and Alolan Marowak are so cool (also, sorry about the multiple comments, first time commenting, and didn't know enter would post the comment...)

whoops, accidentally posted without the other parts...

1. Perhaps Alolan Fearow? I could see it adapting to jungles and becoming a grass/flying. Or an Alolan Victreebel that's fire/grass? Victreebel holds a special place as it helped me win a personal X nuzlocke, though I had to sacrifice it in the process, and I think it could be a good offensive Pokemon if given a little bit more of a boost.

1) How about our 3 Kanto starters? Fire Venusaur? Yes! Water Charizard? Please! Grass Blastoise? Of course! 2) We've gotten our Chicken, Torchic, but how about a Rooster Pokemon? Maybe a mirror for Blaziken kind of like Nidoking and Nidoqueen? #Blazooster 3) Alolan Raichu is bringing back surfing Raichu! What's that? Upset that I traded over Pikachu from Pokemon Yellow onto Pokemon Blue to evolve it after it learned Surf? You must not have wanted to see if Raichu would have the same surfing animation in Pokemon Stadium.

I like 'em! Great ideas, Noah!

1) Ever since Megas were introduced in X & Y, I've always wanted to see a Mega-Arcanine. However, it does not seem that it will ever exist. This is what I thought what would be Mega-Arcanine, but now it's become Alolan Arcanine. I was thinking it would be a Fire/Electric type with the ability Levitate. With a higher Special Attack, it could use STABed Fire Blast/Flamethrower and Thunder/Thunderbolt and not rely on the recoil of Flare Blitz and Wild Charge, and with Levitate, it's only weaknesses are Water and Rock! 2) This one is inspired by the sandworms of Arrakis, also known as Shai-Hulud, from the novel "Dune". The basic form would be a small fish-like creature that would be a weak Water-type (think Magikarp or Feebas). It would probably have Sand Rush. It would take a VERY long time to evolve it, (I was thinking 60's) but would be very worth it, as the tiny fish would finally evolve into a behemoth: A gigantic worm-like Ground-type monstrosity with enormous HP, Attack, Defense, and Speed. It's ability would be Sand Stream. 3) Tapu Koko. It just looks soo cool. With it's Electric typing paired with it's ability of Electric Surge that creates Electric Terrain, it gains a boosted Thunder/Thunderbolt and cannot be put to sleep! It's Fairy typing gets it a STABed Moonblast/Dazzling Gleam. In a team battle, pairing the Guardian Deity with the new surfin' Alolan Raichu, you've got a team that will electrify their opponents!

Question #1 Slowpoke should definitely get an Alola form. With Slowpoke's lackadaisical attitude, I can easily imagine one lounging beneath an Alolan Exeggutor while wearing a straw hat. Question #2 Considering ferrets like to steal and hide various things, I personally think a ferret wearing an eye patch and small pirate hat would be an interesting Pokemon. I would call it Pirret (a portmanteau of "Pirate" and "Ferret") and make it a normal fighting type. Question #3 The Alolan Exeggutor is my favorite so far. A palm tree that tall would cast ample shade for everyone to enjoy!

1. I would like to see an Alola form Tangela, mostly for what they could do with the tropical setting. The vines could be changed to be more flowery and adapt to hide in jungles. 2. We need a Pokemon based off of a dolphin. Would be Water-Type of course, but could also double as Psychic due to their intelligence? Given the Hawaiian setting, Alola is the perfect place to do it. 3. Despite all the jokes, I still think Alolan Exeggcutor makes the most sense in adapting to a Tropical setting so far, and the memes make me love it even more....The Dragon-Type part is a bit more iffy though.

Nintendo Power did the same thing as does most other past and current gaming magazines though. Just do like me and skim through it and enjoy the overall magazine for what it is if you can :D

Nintendo Force, I really gotta say, I do not like these "themed" issues. Let's say you are uninterested in a game. Then an issue is themed around the game or its series. That means that the majority of the issue is uninteresting to you. That's what I've been feeling far too often lately. These themed issues lack enough variety in their contents. I find myself just reading the comics and the reviews, skimming the letters, and calling it a day.

Just got the final production quote from our printing company. Sorry it's been a long wait! Soon should be next week, along with our October 4th update.

The Nintendo Force

1. That's an easy one. Ponyta and Rapidash are my favorite gen 1 pokèmon, so an Alolan form with maybe an electric fairy typing unicorn-ish form would be awesome. 2. Cyclopes pokèmon. Nuff said. 3. Alolan Vulpix. It was already adorable, and they made it even adorabler!

Joseph Stanichar

3. Alolan Ninetales is my Alolan Form so far. I always liked Ninetales in the original games, but rarely used one due to the Fire typing. The new Ice/Fairy typing has me pumped, as Ice is one of my favorite types!

Matthew Macomber

2. I want more new Pokémon based on mythical beasts! Why not a Unicorn, Manticore, Chimera, or Basilisk-inspired Pokémon?

Matthew Macomber

1. In regards to new Alola Forms, I think Psyduck and Golduck would be much better served as Water/Psychic types. After all, people have been confused about their typings for years! Also, turning Ponyta and Rapidash into Fire/Flying and making them look more like pegasi would be neat. :)

Matthew Macomber

One way you could break the silence is to tell us what the "stretch goal" is (what type of playing cards you went with. ;) ). You keep saying there are going to be updates soon. Is soon here yet? ;)

1. An Alolan version of any of the 3 starters would be neat. It could reverse their original type so they would be effective against what they were weak against and vice versa. I know these are popular in fan art and this would be the perfect opportunity to make it happen. 2. I was always a fan of Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, etc. I'd love to see more of these 'baby' Pokémon introduced. 3. Alolan form Ninetails is my favorite and best looking in my opinion. I'm hoping there will be some form of interaction between any of the normal and the Alolan forms in the game.

1: Personally, I'd love a Alolan variation of the legendary birds. It'd be interesting to see if they could put a unique spin on the original legendary trio. That or the Ghastly family. 2: The more ghost types that haunt things they add in, the happier I am. 3: My favorite has to either be Alolan Sandshrew/Slash or Alolan Marowak. The looks of all three are just something that I find to be creative both typing wise and design wise.

1. Sticking with the Kanto only Alolan forms, I really want to see a Chinese Dragon-inspired Arcanine, with the Fire/Dragon type. Really fit it's name of "The Legendary Pokemon." 2. I've come up with many Fakemon over my years as a fan, but my favorite has been a Clown-inspired bouncy ball called Clounce. So I'd have to go with something along the lines of that.

So many are so cool. Oricorio (red/Flamenco) for cutest, Vikavolt for coolest, and Wishiwashi (school form) for the most innovative, creative and awesome design.

I wondering about the Magzter issue #23 and the DropSend one.

That's kind of sort of true – Issue #25 will be out before Christmas (in its digital form) and arrive physically in mailboxes just after the New Year.

The Nintendo Force

1. I wanna see my Gliscor get an Alola update. It could be more fruit-bat-inspired with maybe even a Grass-type thrown in there. Or Alolan Dunsparce. Steel and Dragon. Destroyer of worlds. 2. I really like the Pokemon that have contrasting types with the animal they're based off of. Things like Alolan Sandshrew are really cool for that reason; so I'd like to see some Fire-type fish that thrive in the areas where molten lava meets the sea. 3. Alolan Raichu is just too much. I love it.

Victor Hunter

I had noticed it has been quite a quiet month from NF. 1) While I doubt Nintendo would do it, an Alolan Plusle/Minun would be amazing. 2) I'm a bit surprised Nintendo hasn't added more version pairs; a pairing involving a water creature in one version and a land creature on the other would be interesting (like Groudon/Kyogre were). 3) Alolan Vulpix is the best Alolan form I've seen so far, hands down.

1. I'd love to see an Alolan Tauros or Sentret/Furret! 2. I'd love to see a family of Pokémon based on mythological figures (Norse, Egyptian, Roman/Greek, Mayan, Japanese, etc.) 3. Lycanroc!!!!

Ben Salvidrim

Congrats to the winner, and can't wait for the next issue! Last issue of 2016 though :'(
